Two men arrested over Newtownabbey stabbing released

An injured man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries

Two men arrested in connection with a stabbing on Co Antrim have been released by police.

The PSNI was alerted to a report that a man had been stabbed in the Glenville Park area of Newtownabbey at around 8.25am on Saturday.

The injured man was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which were not thought to be life-threatening.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon used with intent.

A second man, aged 58, was also arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon used with intent and disorderly behaviour.

The PSNI said on Sunday afternoon that the 32-year-old had been released on bail to allow for further police inquiries.

It added that the 58-year-old man had been released unconditionally.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “A 32-year-old man who was arrested following a report of a stabbing in the Glenville Park area of Newtownabbey on Saturday, 22nd August, has been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

“A 58-year-old man, who was also arrested on Saturday in relation to the same incident, has been released unconditionally.”
