After months of sofa surfing, one Tyrone woman is delighted to have been given “a fresh start”.

Aimee Leigh Kelly received the keys to her new home at Gortview Close in Coalisland, a 24-home development recently completed by Apex Housing Association (Apex), helping to transform the lives of local families in need of housing.

Speaking about her new home, Aimee Leigh said: “I absolutely love it – it’s modern, open and perfectly laid out. I was sofa surfing before getting the house so it’s a fresh start for me. Sometimes you have to go through some bad things to get something good.

“When I found out I got the house, I was so overwhelmed and excited. Everyone in Apex has been really supportive. The house is fantastic, I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Gortview Close is a continuation of Apex’s established Gortview Park development in Coalisland and features sixteen two-bedroom houses, seven three-bedroom houses and one three-bedroom wheelchair-accessible bungalow.

The £5 million scheme was delivered with £2.7 million Housing Association Grant funding from the Department for Communities and £2.3 million in private finance provided by Apex.

Many of the homes overlook an attractive area of open space, while the development has been designed in accordance with ‘Secured by Design’ principles to help create a safe and sustainable neighbourhood.

Barry Kerr, Executive Director of Development & Assets at Apex, said: “Stories like Aimee Leigh’s remind us why delivering new social homes is so important. Having a secure place to call home can be life-changing and we are delighted to see families beginning this new chapter at Gortview Close.

“At Apex, we are committed to providing high-quality, energy-efficient homes and laying the foundations and support for new communities to flourish and become places where people thrive.”

Barry added: “Gortview Close builds on the success of our existing Gortview Park development in Coalisland and reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering much-needed affordable housing across Northern Ireland.”
