Wales breaking news plus weather and traffic updates (Saturday, August 15)
Firefighters and police are at the scene and a road is shut after another wildfire broke out in Wales.
A fire is being reported on the mountain at Cilfynydd, near Pontypridd.
The road is currently closed in both directions between Penheol Ely Road and Eglwysilan Road, South Wales Police said.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it received a call at approximately 16:28 to reports of a grass fire near Pontypridd Golf Club.
Crews and appliances from Abercynon, Caerphilly, and Merthyr Tydfil are at the scene and the incident remains ongoing, SWFRS said just after 6.30pm.
The latest blaze comes after the military was called in to help tackle wildfires burning across Wales, residentsare being evacuated from their homes and four 14-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with a fire on the mountain near Pleasant Heights in Porth. Local resident Kevin Williams said he had seen an emergency service helicopter heading to water bomb the fire at Cilfynydd on Saturday .
Mr Williams said the helicopter flew over his house near Trawllwn, heading to Cilfynydd just after 3pm.
“I was sat in the garden having a cuppa when I saw it going overhead about 3.10 pm. I hear there’s a large fire on the mountain above Cilfynydd.”
Other people also reported being able to see the fire and helicopter from the Taff trail nearby.
