For many of us, misplacing our keys or our phone is an everyday occurrence. We would not think twice about it. Joanne Harrigan, 45, a mother and grandmother lives with the knowledge that one day an incurable illness will take over her life, and she will forget her most favourite memories and the people she loves most.

The disease slowly damages brain cells over many years, and this damage spreads to areas that control basic body functions like swallowing, movement, and the immune system, leading to fatal medical complications.
