A man has been hospitalised following a serious assault in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Police were called to Cathedral Road in Cardiff following reports of an assault at around 2.30am.
A 57-year-old man was found injured at the scene and taken to hospital by paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service. A 41-year-old woman was then arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and assaulting an emergency worker.
Emergency services closed the Esso petrol station on Cathedral Road for around five hours and officers urged the public to avoid the area. The road and petrol station had fully reopened by 8am.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “South Wales Police is investigating an assault reported at around 2.30am this morning in Cathedral Road, near the Esso garage, Pontcanna, Cardiff.
“A 57-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he continues to receive medical treatment.
“A 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and assaulting an emergency worker.
“Those involved are known to each other and inquiries are on-going.”
