- Muslims worldwide are preparing to observe the crescent moon to determine the official dates for Hajj pilgrimage and Eid Al-Adha 2026.
- Moon sighting committees in Saudi Arabia and UAE will gather on Saturday, May 16, 2026, to spot the Dhul Hijjah crescent. Religious authorities in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will follow suit on Sunday, May 17.
- According to the International Astronomical Center, the new moon is expected to be “born” early on Sunday, May 17. Astronomers predict the crescent will be easily visible across most of the Islamic world on Sunday evening.
