He reached his 17th Wimbledon quarter-final with a 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Roman Safiullin on Sunday, moving ahead of Roger Federer for all-time wins on the hallowed turf of SW19.

Chasing a 25th Grand Slam title of his career, standing in the Serb’s way of moving one step closer to making more history is Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime after he beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina following a battle that lasted more than four hours.

The Canadian No3 seed knows he must erase the unforced errors that crept in at some key moments when he was in the ascendancy when taking on the seven-time Wimbledon champion.

“I’ve been in a few rollercoaster matches in my career but this is top of the charts,” he said. “This was a crazy match. A lot of mileage on the legs but I feel good for what’s next.”
