Why trains are cancelled between Preston and Bolton

This morning (February 2), Northern said some lines are blocked due to the safety inspection on the train. 

Train services that call at stations between Preston and Bolton are subject to delays and cancellations.

.A spokesman for Northern said: “Due to a safety inspection on a train between Preston and Bolton some lines are blocked.

“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed.

Efforts are being made to move this train with further updates to follow.

The disruption has affected several routes including Blackpool North to Manchester Airport, Barrow in Furness to Manchester Airport, and Windermere to Manchester Airport.

Passengers have been advised to check customer information screens, listen for station announcements, or visit Northern Railway’s website or app for live updates.

Those delayed by 15 minutes or more are eligible for compensation and were advised to retain their tickets to claim through Northern’s delay repay scheme.
