Will Tom Holland Return As Spider-Man? Marvel Boss Weighs In

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, has had the biggest opening weekend of any movie in the Marvel franchise – it’s the second-highest-grossing start to any film ever, too.

Previously, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, called these results “truly phenomenal”, thanking fans for “coming out and experiencing our film the way it was meant to be seen” in cinemas.

But there’s been some speculation that this might be Holland’s last spin in the iconic Spidey suit, despite his obvious success in the role.

The Odyssey star recently admitted he and Marvel have been planning his successor for years: “I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting.”

He’d previously suggested that Owen Cooper, star of Netflix hit Adolescence, would be “awesome” for the job.

In an interview with Variety, Kevin Feige was asked whether there were any plans to make a Spider-Man flick with Holland.

“There are always plans,” he began.

“But right now, he’s going to rest after that global tour. He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve.”

Both Tom and Zendaya, who are married, both starred in two of the most profitable movies of the year so far: The Odyssey, which is already the second-highest-grossing R-rated movie for Universal since Nolan’s other huge hit, Oppenheimer, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which made a staggering $972 million (about £721 million) from 90,000 screens across the world in its opening weekend.

Brand New Day’s mammoth success comes after a relative slump for Marvel. After its Avengers: Endgame goldrush, the BBC reports, films like The Marvels and Thunderbolts have proven some of the studios’ lowest-grossing films.

It’s hard not to feel Feige will see this Spider-Man run as a good sign for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
