Grahaeme Hughes has shed an incredible 6st 9.5lbs — earning him the title of Greatest Loser 2026 in the Friday morning Slimming World group.
A Wishaw man who has battled with his weight for most of his life has completely transformed his health, confidence, and future after losing over six stones.
Grahaeme Hughes has shed an incredible 6st 9.5lbs — earning him the title of Greatest Loser 2026 in the Friday morning Slimming World group.
Grahaeme, who had tried countless diets over the years, made the life‑changing decision to join his local Slimming World group in Wishaw, run by consultant Lian McCulloch.
From the moment he stepped through the doors, he says he knew he’d finally found the right place.
Grahaeme explained that the warm welcome, the supportive atmosphere, and Slimming World’s flexible Food Optimising plan made all the difference.
He said he was amazed to discover he could still enjoy the foods he loved — simply with a few smart swaps — while steadily losing weight in a way that felt realistic and sustainable.
His determination has paid off in ways he never imagined. Since losing weight, Grahaeme has reversed his diabetes and has even been able to come off medication for a heart condition — achievements he describes as “life‑changing”.
The only downside he can think of?
Laughing, he admits it’s the cost of replacing his wardrobe several sizes smaller.
Consultant Lian McCulloch, who leads the Friday morning group, says Grahaeme’s transformation has inspired everyone around him.
“Grahaeme is a real inspiration in our Friday group,” she said.
“His commitment, his positivity, and the way he embraces every part of the journey has been incredible to watch. I hope his story encourages other men and women in the area to take that first step too.”
The Wishaw Slimming World group meets every Friday at 9am in Beltane Outdoor Bowling Club, Alexander Street, Wishaw.
