The incident happened at the junction of the A71 and B715 near Shotts.
A woman has died after a horror two-vehicle crash in Lanarkshire.
Emergency crews raced to the scene at the junction of the A71 and B715 near Shotts shortly after 12.50pm on Friday.
The tragic 63-year-old woman was a rear seat passenger in a grey Ford Focus when it collided with a black Mercedes GLA.
Sadly she could not be saved and was pronounced dead a short time later. Her next of kin are aware.
The male driver of the Ford was taken to hospital for treatment after the crash and the driver of the Mercedes was not injured.
Cops locked down the road following the crash to allow an investigation to take place at the scene and has since reopened.
Police Scotland have launched a probe into the incident and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
Sergeant Gary Stewart, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died.
“Our investigation to establish the full circumstances is ongoing and we would be keen to speak to anyone who believes they may have information.
“We would also ask anyone with dashcam footage from the area to get in touch.
