The next witness to be called by the prosecution is Professor Jason James-Payne, doctor and forensic physician. He is now in the witness box and will answer questions from prosecutor James Wilson.

Professor James-Payne is being asked about images relating to the case. The first one is the right hand of Miss Sidaway with an oxygen and blood pressure measuring device attached to her.

Another image shows Miss Sidaway’s left arm covered in blood. A third image shows her left hand with blood on her hand, arm and bed sheets. Her left hand is shown to have clear wounds on her thumb and index finger.

Professor James-Payne says the images show “incise wounds that have been formed by some form of cutting object”. He adds that they are “typical of knife wounds”.

Another image shows a wound to Miss Sidaway’s left upper arm. “This has been caused by a sharp instrument,” the professor tells the court.

Another image shows Miss Sidaway’s chest with three “obvious wounds” – one is near the mid-line of her chest, one is slightly above the left breast, and one is slightly below the left breast.

Professor James-Payne says there are four injuries to the chest area, according to the images. He adds that the injuries were caused by “a sharp knife with a sharp point”.
