This is the face of the iconic Cardiff nightclub Clwb Ifor Bach which is being part demolished to undergo a major upgrade. Work has recently started on a new lease of life for the club in Womanby Street. A magnet for Wales’ cultural and musical scene, Clwb Ifor Bach is expanding and upgrading its current site more than four decades after it opened.
The venue is working to create a larger 500-capacity performance space, a 200-capacity room for emerging artists, and improved accessibility.

The club opened in 1983 as a Welsh-language social club in a former British Legion building. It evolved into a renowned venue for live music and cultural events over the years.
Cardiff Council agreed plans for the club to increase its size and transform the space into a brand-new, fully accessible multi-room venue two years ago and now that work is underway.
The club will take over the derelict building next door to enlarge the venue.
Stars such as Stereophonics, Boy Azooga, Gwenno, Super Furry Animals and Coldplay have graced the club’s stages early on in their careers.
The club is named after Ifor Bach, the Welsh rebel leader against English rule in the 12th century.
