The pub, which has a patio backing on to the River Foss, takes its name from the medieval tower called Fishergate Postern – which was previously on the banks of the river – and is just around the corner from Fishergate Bar.

On a banner on the outside of the pub, people are signposted to their nearest Wetherspoons which are The Punch Bowl in Blossom Street, The Giant Bellflower in Selby, and The Angel Inn in Wetherby.
