BREAKING: Trump furious as Judge orders him to hand over financial records in his $10 BILLION lawsuit against the BBC!
A federal judge just dropped a major reality check on Donald Trump’s revenge lawsuit against the mighty British Broadcasting Network.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett ruled Tuesday that Trump must turn over detailed financial records from the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust as part of his $10 billion defamation suit against the BBC.
The suit stems from a BBC Panorama documentary that Trump claims maliciously edited his Jan. 6 speech to make it look like he encouraged the Capitol riot. Trump’s lawyers called it a “fishing expedition,” but the BBC argued that Trump’s financial documents are essential to determine whether he actually suffered the huge losses he’s claiming from the network’s program.
“All of President Trump’s brand, properties, and businesses are impugned or said to have been impugned. Reputational, economic damages – all of that is now at issue in this case,” Judge Lett said, making it clear that in his eyes, the records matter.
Unless Trump manages to block it on appeal, the ruling opens the door for the BBC to dig into finances tied to more than 400 companies owned by the Trump family trust.
Trump’s lawyers tried to block the disclosures, arguing the case had “evolved” to focus only on reputational damage. The BBC’s lawyer, Chuck Tobin, shot back that the two are inseparable because Trump has always portrayed himself as a master dealmaker.
Let’s recall that Trump who spent years during his first term dodging release his tax returns, breaking decades of precedent and fighting to keep his finances hidden.
Now, in a lawsuit where Trump is seeking one of the largest defamation awards ever pursued against a news organization, a judge has determined that financial records may be relevant evidence.
Now, in a lawsuit where he’s demanding one of the largest defamation awards in history, a judge is telling him: if you want to keep suing, you’re going to have to open the books.
Trump loves flexing his muscles against the media, but now that someone wants a look at his own money, he screams foul. Sorry, Donnie, lawsuits have consequences.
Karma!
