He walks in needing help, and for once, his mom does not drag it out. She just cuts to the point, gets the number, and handles it. That alone should be the end of the story. But of course it is not, because the second she makes one simple request after helping him, he spirals. In his head, kindness cannot just be kindness. There has to be a catch, a hook, some secret price hiding behind the gesture. That is what makes this scene so funny. He is broke enough to ask for money, but still dramatic enough to act like he is taking some huge moral stand. He is out here declaring himself a free man while also trying to hide his car. It is such a perfect contradiction. The whole thing plays like a guy desperately trying to protect his pride even after life has already made it clear that pride is the one thing he really cannot afford right now.
