All’inizio del 2026, le operazioni militari degli Stati Uniti contro Venezuela e Iran, unite alla chiusura dello Stretto di Hormuz, innescano una grave crisi energetica globale.

In apparenza, la Cina sembra il bersaglio economico principale di queste manovre: Pechino, infatti, importa enormi quantità di petrolio a prezzo scontato proprio dai Paesi sanzionati e fa transitare metà del suo greggio attraverso Hormuz. Tuttavia, a differenza dei Paesi occidentali, l’economia cinese non è così esposta al petrolio.

La resilienza di Pechino si fonda su una strategia di lungo termine basata su due pilastri. Il primo è un accumulo massiccio di riserve strategiche di petrolio, iniziato nel 2012 e accelerato drasticamente nel 2025. Oggi la Cina possiede scorte sufficienti per coprire il proprio fabbisogno per oltre 120 giorni senza importare un solo barile, con un governo autoritario in grado di bloccare la speculazione sui prezzi interni.

Il secondo pilastro è la peculiare transizione energetica del Paese. A differenza dell’Occidente, la Cina dipende pochissimo da gas e petrolio per la produzione di energia elettrica (circa il 20%).

Il Paese si appoggia ancora per il 60% sul carbone, passando direttamente allo sviluppo delle energie rinnovabili, settore in cui domina la crescita globale. Gran parte del petrolio importato non serve per l’energia interna, ma viene raffinato ed esportato sotto forma di prodotti finiti, come la plastica o i carburanti.

L’esito di questa crisi rischia di ritorcersi contro le intenzioni di Washington. Mentre le economie rivali si indeboliscono per i costi dell’energia e gli Stati Uniti appaiono come un partner commerciale sempre più aggressivo e imprevedibile, la Cina può sfruttare la situazione per accrescere la propria stabilità agli occhi degli investitori globali.
