Joburg moves to recover R4 Billion lost to alleged financial misconduct

The City of Johannesburg has referred 13 alleged financial misconduct cases worth more than R4 billion to its independent disciplinary board as part of efforts to tackle financial mismanagement. Deputy Mayor Loyiso Masuku says the investigations involve alleged irregular procurement, fruitless and wasteful expenditure, expired contracts and payments for services that may not have been delivered. She added that the city will also work with the SIU and SAPS to recover public funds and hold officials accountable.
