Manufacturers and employers have mounted a strong opposition to the introduction of new taxes in the Finance Bill 2026, citing concerns over a fragile economy, rising petroleum prices, and shrinking purchasing power among consumers.

The Kenya Association of Manufacturers, while appearing before the National Assembly Finance Committee, warned that the proposed measures could lead to higher prices of essential goods, including agricultural products, mobile phones, sanitary towels, and diapers.

The group has urged Parliament to reconsider the proposals and instead allow the Kenya Revenue Authority to retain a portion of VAT collected specifically for refund purposes, arguing that this would improve efficiency and ease pressure on businesses.
