Alex Warren made his Grammy Awards debut Sunday, but his performance didn’t quite go as planned.

The American influencer-turned-singer faced some technical difficulties on the night, with viewers noticing him falling a beat behind his backup singers and sounding a little on the pitchy side.

His performance of his signature song Ordinary was part of a medley featuring all of this year’s Best New Artist nominees, which also included Lola Young, Katseye and Addison Rae.

Following the technical mishap, Alex laughed off the incident in a post on his TikTok.

“When you’re performing at the Grammys and all you hear is this in your in ears,” the singer wrote alongside an echoey, layered version of Ordinary.

“This would only happen to me…” he then joked in the video’s caption.

During the performance, Alex could be seen fiddling with his mic-pack, and as he walked through the venue’s star-studded audience, he removed his in-ear devices.

It’s worth pointing out that technical issues on the Grammy stage can happen to even the best of them, though.

A decade ago, in 2016, Adele’s performance of All I Ask was uncharacteristically off-key, with the singer later setting the record straight on social media to explain what went wrong.

“The piano mics fell on to the piano strings, that’s what the guitar sound was. It made it sound out of tune,” Adele wrote on her then-Twitter account in her trademark honesty. “Shit happens.”

Despite the mishap on Sunday night, Alex Warren is celebrating his first nomination after a huge year in the industry, which saw his breakthrough song Ordinary becoming the longest-running number one of the 2020s in the UK’s official singles chart.

The Best New Artist award ultimately went to Olivia Dean, who performed Man I Need during the show.
