At a time when rumours surrounding who will be the next James Bond only continue to intensify, Lana Del Rey fans are simultaneously growing impatient for her follow-up to 2023’s Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.

In a benevolent gesture towards both fanbases, the Born To Die singer unveiled a surprise on Thursday in the form of her take on the classic Bond theme.

Lana’s new release First Light is actually a companion song to 007 First Light, a new video game based on the iconic MI5 agent, and delivers all the high-octane drama of a classic Bond theme with the Grammy nominee’s distinctive lyrics and vocal delivery.

Interestingly, First Light isn’t Lana’s first time recording a theme song for a James Bond project.

Back in 2024, Lana disclosed that her song 24, taken from her 2015 album Honeymoon, had actually been written with the then-upcoming James Bond film Spectre in mind.

However movie bosses decided at the time to go with Sam Smith’s The Writing’s On The Wall instead, and while the British star’s offering perhaps isn’t the go-to when we think of 007 anthems, it did win them an Oscar and became the first Bond theme to reach number one in the UK singles chart.

A successor to Daniel Craig at the helm of the James Bond franchise is yet to be announced, with recent reports claiming that Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi are the frontrunners for the gig.

What we do know, though, is that the forthcoming 26th James Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, perhaps best known for his work on the Dune sci-fi saga, and written by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders and House Of Guinness.

007 First Light will be released for most gaming platforms in May 2026.
