Richard Tice Slammed After Encouraging Brits To Enjoy Heatwaves

Richard Tice is in the spotlight after urging Brits to enjoy the recent heatwaves despite growing fears over the climate crisis.

Reform’s deputy leader told a press conference he thought it was “arrogant” for anyone to try and halt the changing climate.

“Of course, the climate changes, but where is the evidence that net zero is going to stop it? Where is the evidence? There is no evidence,” the MP said.

“Climate change has always happened. It always will. Maybe the smarter thing to do is to adapt to it than think arrogantly that you can stop it.

“When it’s a bit warm, let’s enjoy it. And if it means that English wine and sparkling wine gets better and better, fantastic,” he said. “That means we can take on the French – fantastic.”

His remarks sparked serious concerns following a record-breaking summer in the UK where temperatures have soared above 35C on multiple occasions.

The government estimates that 2,877 people have died as a result of the temperatures reached in May and June.

Labour party chair Bridget Phillipson said: “Richard Tice’s comments are tone-deaf.

“With wildfires raging across the UK and drought threatening water supplies and food security, comments like these don’t just raise serious questions about his judgment – they also expose where his interests really lie.”

The Guardian also warned that the 2026 heat wave has cost the UK around £4 billion in lost economic output.

The secretary general of the Fire Brigades Union also warned last week that the UK is “facing a national emergency” over the extreme heatwaves and wildfires.

Steve Wright told Times Radio: “I don’t think it’s too strong a term to say this is a national emergency right now. We’re seeing fires all across the UK, stretching each and every Fire and Rescue Service in all four nations.”

But Reform has promised to scrap government pledges to reach net zero by 2030 if it ever gets into power, and to end green subsidies.
