Romeo Beckham To Make Acting Debut In Queer Tennis Romance
Between Spice World and King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, the Beckham name is not exactly synonymous with acting.
However, Sir David and Victoria’s son Romeo Beckham is turning his hand to the world of film, with a role in a new French queer romance.
Directed by renowned fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti, Forty Love will follow a tennis superstar named Sacha Gallo as he trains with his father for a major French trophy.
In the film, Romeo will play a new rival to Sacha, who forces him to reanalyse what he knows about competition, love and ambition.
“For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature – love,” a synopsis, published by Variety, teases. “A force as exhilarating as it is destabilising – and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court.”
A first-look photo from the set of Forty Love depicts Romeo next to French actor Paul Kircher, who is set to play Sacha, with the pair looking intensely at each other.
The film’s producer, Hugo Sélignac, has described the movie as “sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story” about the “demands of high-level sport, and everything that lies beneath the surface”, adding that it is “led by outstanding performances”.
Alongside Romeo and Paul, Forty Love will also feature French actors Guillaume Canet, Benjamin Voisin and Catherine Deneuve.
Romeo, who is the second-oldest child of David and Victoria Beckham, first tried his hand at football in his younger years, playing for USL League One club Fort Lauderdale CF, an affiliate team of Inter Miami (of which his dad is co-owner), in 2021, before joining Brentford B.
He then hung up his boots for good in 2024 to concentrate on his modelling career. As a model, Romeo has worked with luxury brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry and Balenciaga.
Forty Love will be distributed by Studiocanal, the company behind mega-hits including Paddington and Bridget Jones’s Diary. The film will be released in France in November, although there is no current UK release date.
Romeo’s latest career pivot comes amid continued family drama involving his elder brother, Brooklyn Peltz-Beckham.
The siblings have been involved in a family-wide public feud since January, when Brooklyn called out his parents for their alleged “controlling” behaviour, and accused them of trying to “endlessly ruin” his marriage to Nicola Peltz.
While Romeo has mostly stayed quiet on the family feud, he has been spotted liking social media posts claiming Victoria and David were “trying to rescue their son”.
