Good news for Spider-Man fans: not only is the new installment Brand New Day out now (with good reviews), but they’ll finally be able to work out who Stranger Things star Sadie Sink’s mysterious character is.

Though Sadie has been connected to the project for a long time, there’s been little to no clarity on her role, which critics describe as crucial. Well, OK – we’ve learned that her character sits on a bench and apparently has something to do with a scrunchie.

But if you haven’t seen the film yet, Sadie herself has reacted to fan theories about her possible roles.

On The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, the host ran through the parts fans think she might have taken.

Here are the suggestions and her responses:

1) The film’s “main villain”

Fallon didn’t clarify who that “villain” might be; Peter Parker’s enemy in the new movie is also a surprise.

To this, Sadie said: “We’ll have to wait and see”.

2) Spider-Man’s non-MJ love interest, Gwen Stacy

Formerly portrayed by Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Gwen was Peter Parker’s classmate and love interest before Mary-Jane, but in the comics, she was controversially killed off.

As to whether Sadie’s taking her part, “I guess we’ll find out,” she replied.

3) Mayday Parker, the daughter of Peter Parker and MJ “who eventually becomes Spider-Girl”

Nicknamed “May Parker”, this character exists in alternate timeline Reality-982.

To this suggestion, the Stranger Things actor stated, “I don’t know!” as host Jimmy laughed.

4) Punisher’s sidekick, Rachel Cole

Rachel Cole-Alves was mentored by Frank Castle, who became The Punisher.

“We’ll find out in theatres” whether Sadie plays her, the actor chirped on Jimmy’s show.

5) Firestar, Spider-Man’s possible first superhero love interest

Also known as Angelica Jones, Firestar ”manifested her mutant microwave energy powers at the age of 13,” Marvel explained. She first appeared in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.

This one got a “who knows?”

6) Jean Grey

Jimmy called this “the most popular internet theory”. Jean Grey is an X-Men member (some fans also think she might play Rachel Grey, Jean’s daughter). Fans think she’ll bring “X-Men mutants into the [Marvel Cinematic Universe]”.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Sadie ended.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is showing in cinemas now.
