What Did Lola Young Say In Her Censored Grammy Awards Speech?

Lola Young certainly kept the Grammys’ censors busy while celebrating her first ever win during this year’s awards show.

On Sunday night, the British singer-songwriter beat fellow nominees Chappell Roan, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Sabrina Carpenter to nab the Best Pop Solo Performance prize for her signature hit Messy.

Taking to the stage during the live broadcast, Lola claimed at the beginning of her acceptance speech that she’d not actually prepared anything to say, quipping: “It’s Messy… do you know what I mean?”

“I don’t know what to say! Thank you so much!” she continued.

At that point, the sound dipped from her speech, but returned just in time for an uncensored F-bomb to slip through into the live broadcast, after which she quickly apologised.

Take a listen for yourself below:

Earlier in the evening, Lola performed as part of the medley of Best New Artist nominees, alongside the likes of Sombr, Addison Rae, Alex Warren, Katseye and fellow Brit Olivia Dean, who went on to win the award.

Like Lola, Olivia was also censored during her acceptance speech, after uttering “Jesus Christ” right at the beginning of it.

The 2026 Grammy Awards marked Lola’s first live TV performance since taking a step back from the public eye in October 2025, following an incident when she collapsed on stage during a festival performance.

In a statement days later, she told her fans that she’d be “going away for a while” but assured them that she would return “once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger”.

Both Lola and Olivia are next expected to make an appearance at the Brit Awards later this month, where they are leading the way with a hefty five nominations each.
