2026 Week Zero CFB Game Summaries for Teams in West
Week Zero featured a light schedule, with only seven FBS teams from the West competing in five games.
USC from the Big Ten was among the winners, as was Stanford from the ACC.
Among the week’s losers were San Jose State, Hawaii, Sacramento State, New Mexico State, and UNLV.
Here are brief game summaries for each matchup.

No. 14 USC 42, San José State 26
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
The Trojans dispatched the Spartans 42-26 Saturday at home in Los Angeles, leading wire-to-wire. USC’s Jayden Maiava threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns, and scored a TD rushing. SJSU’s Luke Weaver threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns, and scored a TD rushing. Trent Mosley caught a touchdown pass to go with his 118 receiving yards for Southern California. Jide Abasiri led the Trojans with four stops. Naseri Danielson paced San José State with 10 tackles. USC outgained SJSU in total yardage 505-336.

Eastern Michigan 28, Sacramento State 17
Rynearson Stadium
The Eagles downed the Hornets 28-17 Saturday at home in Ypsilanti. EMU’s Noah Kim threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns, and scored a TD rushing. Sac State’s Carson Conklin passed for 221 yards. Zach Mowchan led Eastern Michigan with 14 stops, Jason Marshall hauled in a pick, and Marvell Eggleston recovered a fumble. Boogsie Silvera paced Sacramento State with 13 tackles. EMU outgained Sac State in total yardage 348-270.

Stanford 37, Hawai’i 27
Stanford Stadium
The Cardinal dispatched the Rainbow Warriors 37-27 Saturday at home in Stanford, in a back-and-forth battle with three lead changes. The Tree’s Davis Warren threw for 310 yards and a touchdown. UH’s Micah Alejado threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Micah Ford rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns for Stanford. Matt Rose led the Cardinal with nine stops, and Tevarua Tafiti recovered a fumble and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown. Kona Moore paced Hawai’i with 14 tackles. The Tree outgained UH in total yardage 483-322.

Florida State 34, New Mexico State 17
Doak Campbell Stadium
The Seminoles downed the Aggies 34-17 Saturday at home in Tallahassee. NMSU’s Trey Hedden threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns. FSU’s Ashton Daniels threw for 202 yards and a touchdown, and scored a TD rushing, and Ousmane Kromah rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown. Brodrick Malone caught a touchdown pass to go with his 96 receiving yards for New Mexico State, and Tyler King caught a touchdown pass to go with his 78 receiving yards. Ashlynd Barker led the Seminoles with eight stops, and Quindarrius Jones pulled down an interception. Sone Aupiu paced the Aggies with eight tackles. FSU outgained NMSU in total yardage 419-319.

Memphis 27, UNLV 21
Allegiant Stadium
The Tigers knocked off the Rebels 27-21 Saturday on the road in Las Vegas. UNLV’s Jackson Arnold threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns, and scored a TD rushing. U of M’s Marcus Stokes threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns, and Jaylin Carter rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown. Philippe Laforge kicked two field goals for Memphis. Zach Ruffin led the Tigers with 13 stops. Jake Pope paced UNLV with 13 tackles. The Tigers defense sacked UNLV’s quarterback six times. U of M won despite being outgained by UNLV in total yardage 460-418.
