Alas girls bounce back, crush Uzbeks at AVC U18 classification

MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas vented its ire on Uzbekistan with a 25-11, 25-7, 25-9 domination in the AVC Girls’ U18 Championship classification round on Sunday at Terminal 21 Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
After missing the quarterfinals, the national youth team remained locked in to finish strong in the continental competition.
Sharina Rhyza Lleses and Ella Gonzalvo led the domination with nine points each to finish the match in just 58 minutes.
Jhaynna Love Bulandres and Princess Khaira Manzano chipped in five points each, while Xyz Rayco and four others scored four each.
The Philippines seeks to advance to the battle for fifth place, facing India on Monday at 1 p.m.
Alas Pilipinas bowed out of quarterfinal contention after absorbing a 25-22, 25-13, 28-26 loss to Indonesia last Friday.
They finished with a 1-2 record in Pool C after splitting their first two games with a win over Iran and a tough loss to runner-up Japan.
Alas fired 14 service aces and outplayed Uzbekistan in attacking, 35-12, with the former only committing eight errors against the latter’s 22.
Ugiloy Abduvalieva led Uzbekistan with seven points, as they were sent to the last-place classification.
