Alex Eala takes on Wang Xinyu in Italian Open round of 64

MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala takes on Chinese rising star Wang Xinyu in the Italian Open round of 64 on Friday (Philippine time).
Eala hopes to sustain her momentum after beating Magdalena Frech of Poland in the first round, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4. Wang, meanwhile, got a first-round bye.
The Chinese player is currently World No.33 and reached a WTA career-high ranking of No.3 in February.
Wang reached the fourth round of this year’s Australian Open.
Eala fell to the 24-year-old Wang in their first duel in the ASB Classic semifinal last January, 7-5, 5-7, 4-6.
Currently ranked World No.42, Eala is looking to reach beyond the round of 64, following last month’s exit at the Madrid Open.
The 20-year-old Rafa Nadal Academy graduate already surpassed her round of 128 exit in last year’s Italian Open where she lost to Marta Kostyuk, 0-6, 1-6.
