Earlier in the day, Vikings Territory ran a piece insisting that LG1 Donovan Jackson is the Vikings’ top breakout candidate. What of the player who is ready to bounce back from a poor season?
The candidates for that title are pretty robust. Players such as LT Christian Darrisaw, LB Blake Cashman, S Josh Metellus, and RB Aaron Jones could be the focus. In like manner, WR Justin Jefferson is coming off a poor year. The reality, though, is that Jefferson was playing good ball but without a good quarterback to unlock him. WR Jordan Addison could be understood in a slightly different manner.

His best year for overall yards arrived in 2023 when he finished off at 911 yards. A lot was going on in that season. Most notably, Justin Jefferson missed seven full games alongside part of two more due to injury. Addison thus had to step into the WR1 job as a rookie. Some will see that as a pure positive since he earned more targets. Keep in mind, though, that he also earned more attention from defenders.

Another key factor in that ’23 season: the quarterback turmoil.
Addison did well working with Kirk Cousins. Needing to catch the ball from all of Josh Dobbs, Nick Mullens, and Jaren Hall afterwards was difficult, though. The collection of four passers all had very different abilities.
He has since gotten into his own way several times, most notably with his driving infractions. There was a random issue at a noodle restaurant inside of a casino earlier in 2026 that proved to be a blip rather than anything major. All of the off-field nonsense — speeding, noodle issues, missing a walk through — are in the past.

Moving into 2026, Addison will see $4,296,411 hit the budget, per Over the Cap. He’ll then receive a nice payday in 2027 due to Minnesota snagging his 5th-year option. He’ll gobble up $18 million next year.
Absolutely crushing the upcoming season could lead to a scenario where GM Nolan Teasley opts to extend the talented WR2 so that Minnesota boasts twin weapons out wide to keep rallying around for several more years. Motivation shouldn’t be an issue.

EST Cola of Thailand eyes the PVL Invitational Conference crown, riding the brilliance of Papatchaya Phontham once again in a 25-19, 26-24, 26-24 sweep of also-ran Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The left-handed attacker led EST Cola with 21 points on 19 kills and two blocks as this batch of Thais—a far better version of what played in the last edition of this tournament—won a fourth straight game after opening up with a loss to PLDT to make the championship match sated on Tuesday also at the fabled Big Dome in Cubao.

“I feel good, but I have to give credit to everyone on the team,” said Phontham through an interpreter. “If we didn’t have our receivers and our setter, I wouldn’t have been able to attack and score. Everyone contributes to the team. It’s all about teamwork.”
EST Cola completed its turnaround from fourth-place in 2024 to a finalist—the fourth guest team to reach the final after silver medalist King Whale Taipei in 2022, 2023 champion Kurashiki Ablaze of Japan, and last year’s runner-up Kobe Shiwa University, also from Japan.

One of the 2026 Fantasy football sleepers the model is predicting: New York Giants tight end Isaiah Likely, who followed coach John Harbaugh from the Ravens to the Giants this offseason. Likely, who has an ADP of 92 this year, showed big-play capability in Baltimore, but always battled Mark Andrews for targets.
Now the clear-cut No. 1 tight end, Likely has reportedly been a favorite target of quarterback Jaxson Dart, especially with Nabers (knee) limited in camp. He had two catches for 11 yards in the preseason opener. SportsLine’s model has Likely as TE9 in its Fantasy football rankings, ahead of players such as Sam LaPorta and Travis Kelce.

Another sleeper that SportsLine’s Fantasy football rankings 2026 have identified: Titans running back Tony Pollard. The 29-year-old has now cleared 1,000 rushing yards in four straight seasons — two of those with the Cowboys and two with the Titans. Backs approaching age 30 often fall out of favor in Fantasy, but Pollard actually surged late in 2025, averaging 100 yards per game and scoring three total times in the last five weeks of the season.
With upgraded receivers, the Titans could take a step forward in the passing game this year, possibly opening up more room for Pollard. He’s going off the board around pick No. 77, but SportsLine’s model has him in the same tier as backs being picked earlier like TreVeyon Henderson and Rico Dowdle. “John Brooks got this one spot on,” he told Goodison News. “The player, Barry, went to ground far too easily and he is lucky that he did not receive a yellow card for his clear act of simulation.”

The ex-PGMOL chief also stated that Diogo Dalot should have been shown a yellow card for pulling George’s shirt. He was later cautioned for that exact offence on Jack Grealish.
He said: “Dalot pulled his opponent’s shirt stopping a promising attack. John Brooks really should at that point issue a yellow card for unsporting behaviour.”
Hackett did, however, agree with Brooks’ yellow card decision for Harrison Armstrong’s foul on Bruno Fernandes. He said: “The yellow card to Everton midfielder Armstrong is correct. The player wrapped his arm around his opponent’s neck.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Sunday that he sees Ohtani playing in the first game of their series against the Cincinnati Reds, “if nothing changes or continues to trend.”
Roberts added that while Ohtani’s return to the mound has not been officially ruled out, it’s unlikely at this stage of the season.

El-Kanemi Warriors head coach, King Emmanuel, says his team still has a lot to improve despite their impressive 3-0 win over UDIB of Guinea-Bissau in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
The Warriors secured a comfortable victory in Ikenne to put themselves in a strong position ahead of the return leg.
However, Coach Emmanuel King believes the team is still developing, noting that the current squad has been together for only about four weeks.

“We have not arrived at that point. We are still participating. But at the right time, when we get there, you will see,” Emmanuel said when asked about his satisfaction with the team’s performance.
The coach praised his players for their hard work since the squad was formed, especially their improvement in physical fitness.
He admitted that there is still plenty of work to do, despite the three-goal advantage.

Emmanuel King said the result has increased his confidence that El-Kanemi Warriors can reach the next round.
He described the victory as giving him “higher hopes” and said the team now has the “key” to qualifying for the second round.

He said the Warriors must finish the job and make their supporters happy after seeing what they achieved in the first meeting.
“We have seen what happened in the first leg, so we have no option but to go there and make our supporters happy,” he added.
Omarion Hampton is the starting running back for the Los Angeles Chargers. The North Carolina Tar Heels product is fresh off a solid but unspectacular rookie season and will look to contribute more to the team’s Super Bowl aspirations.

What’s next for Omarion Hampton?
The Los Angeles Chargers selected Omarion Hampton in the first round of last year’s draft. The versatile running back had an impressive collegiate career at North Carolina and was tipped to take the big leagues by storm.
However, injuries limited Hampton to a mere nine games (six starts) as a rookie. He did record a stat line of 124 carries for 545 rushing yards and four ground touchdowns, along with 32 receptions for 192 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Jim Harbaugh is known for running a heavy, physical, power-backfield system. Hampton, Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal tick those boxes ahead of a crucial campaign for the one-time NFL Coach of the Year. His philosophy aims to wear down defenses through dense blocking schemes, downhill running and high efficiency.

American captain Nathan Smith didn’t know it at the time, but he foretold what was to come on Sunday evening at the 51st Walker Cup.
“This is one of the greatest sporting events in the world, and we’re going to find out why this afternoon,” Smith said after the Americans swept the morning foursomes session to take a 9.5-6.5 lead at Lahinch.
Needing just 3.5 points to retain the cup and 4 to win, the Americans were on the verge of a sixth straight Walker Cup victory. After all, GB&I had only mounted two Sunday singles comebacks in Walker Cup history, and neither of those teams faced a mountain as large as the one the 2026 team faced.
But the beauty of sports is that anything can happen. It’s one of the only truly unscripted things left in a world ruled by social media, influencers and a tidal wave of reality T.V. shows.

So, as the 10 singles matches set out at Lahinch on Sunday afternoon, GB&I believed it could perform its own version of Team Europe’s Ryder Cup “Miracle at Medinah” comeback in 2012. They won the first four matches to take the lead, capture momentum and get the Irish crowd behind them. But then, after the U.S.’s Ryder Cowan and Josiah Gilbert won their matches, GB&I needed everything to go its way to complete a historic comeback. If one domino didn’t fall, a sixth straight loss was certain.
American Kihei Akina needed to miss a short birdie putt on 18. He did. GB&I’s Niall Sheils Donegan had to follow with a par putt of his own to halve the match. Check. GB&I’s Eliot Baker had to become just the second player ever to beat Stewart Hagestad in Walker Cup singles — and did so with a birdie on 18. The home team needed Miles Russell to three-putt from 50 feet on 17, miss a 15-foot par putt on 18 and have Connor Graham make a six-foot birdie putt on 18 to halve the match. Done, done and . . . done.
Even after all of that, GB&I still needed Josh Hill, the lowest-ranked player on either team, to beat World No. 2 amateur Tyler Watts on 18 to win the Cup. Watts lost his tee shot left and had to gouge out. He left his third shot 20 feet from the cup for birdie. Hill put his second in the greenside bunker and played a magnificent, lengthy bunker shot to 5 feet. When Watts’ birdie attempt missed, Hill put the exclamation point on a historic win by rolling in his birdie putt.
Smith was right: The Walker Cup is indeed one of the greatest sporting events in the world and, as my colleague Michael Bamberger wrote, has been making its case as the best team event in golf. All that was on display at Lahinch. The Walker Cup’s secret sauce is that it doesn’t bother with crowds and infrastructure and allows the event to go to places like Lahinch or, last year, Cypress Point. It’s a pure event for diehard golf fans, one that’s steeped in the DNA of what golf was originally meant to be about before billions of dollars and television broadcasts and commercial interests started to mold pro golf into something different.

The Walker Cup is match-play golf in its purest form, with limited crowds — 8,000 were on hand per day at Lahinch — at some of the world’s great gems.
Sunday was the Walker Cup at its finest. It delivered high drama and ended with the Americans suffering a devastating collapse as the Irish crowd in attendance went bonkers. Even that showed what makes the Walker Cup different. Historic losses in sports often lead to tears and anger and sadness. The negative emotions that our current social-media scrolling society seems to lap up.
But as Smith and a team of young American stars digested a loss that was unthinkable hours before, there was none of that. For the U.S., there was no one taking the blame or ruing a heartbreak that they’ll have to live with for the rest of their lives. They were sad, yes. How could they not be? But when asked about their fresh scar, Smith, Cowan and Hagestad all leaned on a different emotion, one that speaks to how meaningful this event is, both to them and the game.

“It sucks. It sucks losing, but at the end of the day, someone’s got to lose,” Cowan said. “What we can take from it is what means the most. Just being around all these guys, being around Stew, is a blessing. It really is. We had a great week. No matter where we ended up, we had an amazing week, and I feel like we all grew together as a team.”
The 35-year-old Hagestad, who was a member of the previous five victorious teams, echoed the sentiment. The loss will sting. But bigger things will remain after the wound has healed.
“It sucks. It sucks right now, but sports, right?” Hagestad said. “That’s why we do it. That’s why every one of us practice. That’s why we try and put ourselves in situations to be a part of stuff like this. It came down to literally the last match. It’s an honor to be a part of it. It’s an honor to be in the Walker Cup Society. As bummed as I am for me and our team and USGA and amateur golf and all the things, they earned it. They played great.”
With GB&I celebrating what Luke Poulter deemed the “Legend of Lahinch,” Smith and Hagestad looked at a team of budding young stars with bright futures — a group of players that are expected to go on to accomplish big things — and they delievered a message about this week and this event and what ultimately will be the lasting memory of something that hurts now, but will someday transform into a postiive. Such is the nature of the Walker Cup.

“I think that this is one of those things where, as they get older, they’re going to appreciate it more and more,” Hagestad said. “So to that extent for them, I’m really excited for them, and as they look back, I’m sure they’ll have a lot of really fond memories. It stinks in the moment right now, but at the same time, this is one of those things that ages really, really well. It’s just an incredible community, and we’re really, really fortunate to be a part of it. … It’s something that as we all get older, we’ll all come together and we’ll all have a really neat bond.”
“I told them how proud I was of them,” said Smith, the U.S. captain. “They played their hearts out. It’s a big trip. It’s a tough trip. Everything we, as a team, tried to overcome. Just told them I loved them. Anything they need in this life, they got it from me.”
As Smith predicted, Sunday afternoon at Lahinch showed why the Walker Cup is “one of the greatest events in sports.”
One that delivers pure drama and ultimately is about something much bigger than the final result.

Seat Unique offers official match tickets with VIP and hospitality packages for each home game this season, including Man United vs Sabah. As well as a seat at Old Trafford, fans usually have a range of complimentary food and drink options included in the price of a ticket, plus a series of other perks.
Prices for select packages have fallen by more than 50% since the start of the month, with the cheapest option now £75 (was £159) per person for the Seat Unique Club, which provides access to Old Trafford’s new lounge opened last season. Here, fans can choose from a selection of complimentary food and drinks such as beer, prosecco and soft drinks, with a matchday programme and Megastore voucher also included at no extra cost.
Guests also receive a ‘VIP Executive’ padded seat near the half-way line in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand’s block N3405, as well as a four-course meal and complimentary drinks. A ticket includes a matchday programme and pre-game screening around the lounge.
Also available is the Block N1404 with Victoria Warehouse package at £99 (was £149). This provides seating in block N1404 of the Sir Alex stand and access to the Victoria Warehouse hospitality area from three hours before kick off and one hour after the final whistle.

The £139 (was £189) Salford package includes padded seating on or near the halfway line of the Sir Alex stand and informal rotating street food options in the Salford Lounge from three hours before one hour after the game. A match programme is provided for free, but food and drink must be purchased on the day.
Prices rise to £179 (was £249) for the Champions Club Lounges package, which comes with stellar ‘VIP Executive’ padded seats in the middle tier near the half-way line. There’s also an all-inclusive three course meal with drinks served in one of Old Trafford’s two newly refurbished Champions Club 22 suites – the Sir Alex Suite or the Legends Lounge.

Fans can also enjoy hot pies, savouries and cakes at full time and inclusive car parking. The Evolution package is also £179 (was £249) per person and includes similar perks but has ‘VIP Executive’ padded seats situated near the front of the North-East Quadrant’s middle tier, between the Sir Alex and East stands.
As well as a three course meal and complimentary drinks including champagne on arrival, Evolution guests can also enjoy a Q&A from a Man United legend before the game. It’s worth noting that each Seat Unique package is intended for Man United fans only as away supporters are not permitted in the hospitality areas.
Also, some packages operate with certain dress codes, so guests should check the details of their ticket when booking. Alternatively, fans can visit Man United’s website to check eligibility for any remaining tickets.

Otherwise, Man United vs Sabah will be broadcast live on TNT Sports on September 10 from an 8pm kick off. As well as the TNT Sports TV channel, it will be available to stream on HBO Max or Prime Video’s TNT Sports channel.
Toronto dropped one game back of the third wild-card spot with a 6-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals, and Cleveland retook the final post-season berth with its third walk-off win over the Detroit Tigers in as many days.
The Blue Jays hold the tiebreaker over the Guardians after winning the season series earlier this week. Both teams have 18 games remaining.
The Texas Rangers are now two games back after splitting a four-game series with the AL-leading Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles were swept by the Boston Red Sox and have now dropped six straight, falling four games back in the race.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez homered as the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep.
Toronto (72-72) dropped a game behind Cleveland for the final American League wild card. The Guardians edged Detroit 3-2 in 10 innings.
Randy Dobnak (3-3) allowed one run over six innings for the win. He struck out three and walked none. Three of the four hits he gave up came in his last inning.

Blue Jays starter Spencer Arrighetti (7-9) yielded six runs and five hits in 4.2 innings. He walked three and struck out three.
Kansas City went ahead 3-0 before Arrighetti got an out. John Rave beat out an infield single before Bobby Witt Jr. coaxed a walk. Pasquantino then launched a three-run homer.
Witt led off the third with a line-drive double off the wall in left field. One out later, Perez bounced a drive off the top of the fence in nearly the same spot for a two-run homer and a 5-0 cushion.
The Royals added another run in the fifth on an infield single by Nick Loftin after a walk and a hit batter.

Toronto finally got to Dobnak in the sixth when Josh Smith hit his fifth home run just over the right-field fence inside the foul pole.
GUARDIANS 3, TIGERS 2 (10 INNINGS)
CLEVELAND — Daniel Schneemann singled home rookie Angel Genao from third base in the 10th inning to send Cleveland to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, the Guardians’ third walk-off victory in the four-game series.
With a runner at second, Patrick Bailey opened the 10th with a single off Kyle Finnegan (3-1). Schneemann then ripped a 1-0 pitch into right, triggering another celebration by the Guardians, who are chasing Chicago in the AL Central.

The Guardians didn’t lead at any point in the series until their final swing. Cleveland swept a doubleheader on Friday before being shut out Saturday. It’s the first time the Guardians have had three walk-off wins in a series since 2013.
Cade Smith (5-1) pitched two perfect innings, striking out the side in the 10th with an automatic runner at second.
Brayan Rocchio homered for the Guardians, who moved one game ahead of Toronto for the final wild-card spot.
Guardians starter Gavin Williams had another solid outing, allowing two runs and striking out 11 in six innings. It’s the right-hander’s 11th double-digit strikeout game this season — most in the majors.

Rocchio tied it 2-2 in the fifth with his 13th homer, a shot to right that cut through a stiff breeze blowing into Progressive Field.
The homer off Tigers starter Jackon Jobe came two days after Rocchio became the sixth player to hit a grand slam and walk-off homer in the same game.
Riley Greene, who homered twice and drove in four runs in Saturday’s 6-0 win, put the Tigers up 2-0 in the first with a two-run double.
The Guardians got a run back in the first on consecutive doubles by Steven Kwan and rookie Travis Bazzana.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Jake Burger homered twice and Ezequiel Duran had his 12th game this season with at least three hits as the Texas Rangers rallied from two four-run deficits to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-6 on Sunday.
The Rangers (71-73) earned a split of the four-game series with the Rays (85-58), who own the American League’s best record. Texas trails by two games in the races for the AL West lead and the league’s final wild card.
With the score tied 5-all in the fifth, Elias Díaz singled off Steven Matz (5-5) to score Burger, and Duran singled off Casey Legumina to bring home Logan O’Hoppe.
The Rays pulled within a run in the seventh, but Corey Seager restored Texas’ two-run lead with a solo homer in the eighth.

Jakob Junis pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save in seven chances after All-Star closer Jacob Latz worked a scoreless eighth. On Saturday night, Latz was the 10th-inning loser for his first defeat since April 10 after allowing his first home run since June 25.
Trevor Williams (1-0), signed by Texas last Tuesday after being released by Washington on Sunday, pitched two scoreless innings for his first win since May 2025.
The Rays went ahead 4-0 in the second inning, sending 10 batters to the plate against Rangers starter MacKenzie Gore.
Burger homered leading off the second and, with the Rangers trailing 5-1 in the fourth, added a two-run shot — both off starter Ian Seymour — as Texas batted around to tie the score.

It was the ninth career multihomer game for Burger, who is tied for the club lead with 25 homers and leads the team with 82 RBIs.
BALTIMORE — Aroldis Chapman notched his 400th career save, Eli White hit a three-run homer following an error by Gunnar Henderson and the Boston Red Sox capped a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 3-1 victory Sunday.
Chapman gave up a one-out single in the ninth before striking out Coby Mayo and Christian Encarnacion-Strand to become the ninth player in major league history to record 400 saves. The 38-year-old Chapman earned his first save in 2011 with Cincinnati and went on to have 10 seasons with 30 or more, including 33 this season.
Over his lengthy career, Chapman has totalled 24 saves against Baltimore. The lefty got one Friday night that started Boston on its sweep of the sinking Orioles.

Coming off two straight shutout losses, the Orioles used successive two-out doubles by Mayo and Encarnacion-Strand to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
In the second, with two outs and a runner on, Henderson failed to make a backhand stab of a grounder to shortstop. White followed with a drive off Kyle Bradish (7-13) that cleared the left-field wall.
Payton Tolle (9-6) struck out 12 over six innings for Boston, allowing four hits and walking none.
Despite getting only four hits and failing to score an earned run, the Red Sox improved to a major league-best 33-17 since the All-Star break and tightened their hold on the second AL wild-card slot.

After closing August with a four-game winning streak to reach .500 for the first time since April, the Orioles have lost six straight to fall behind several teams in the race for the third and final AL wild-card spot.
It’s Baltimore’s longest skid since an eight-game slide last May, during which the team fired manager Brandon Hyde.
