India opened its shooting campaign at the Asian Games 2026 with a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event on Sunday, September 20, as Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa Kochalumkal Vinod combined for a score of 1898.0.
China claimed gold with 1904.2, while hosts Japan took bronze with 1897.1, finishing just 0.9 points behind the Indian trio.
The result gave India its first confirmed medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and provided an encouraging start for a shooting contingent that arrived at the Games after strong performances at recent World Cups and World Championships. The women’s 10m air rifle event also marked the start of India’s individual shooting challenge, with Elavenil, Sonam and Vidarsa competing in qualification ahead of the final scheduled later on Sunday.
India have fielded a strong shooting contingent in Aichi-Nagoya, with Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka among the leading names across pistol, rifle and shotgun events. India’s shooting record at Asian Games
Shooting has historically been one of India’s most productive sports at the Asian Games. Before Aichi-Nagoya 2026, Indian shooters had won 80 medals — 16 gold, 30 silver and 34 bronze.
The silver won by Elavenil, Sonam and Vidarsa takes India’s overall Asian Games shooting tally to 81 medals, including 31 silver medals.

Who are India’s biggest shooting medal hopes at Asian Games 2026?
A double medallist at the Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker will lead India’s pistol challenge and is entered in the women’s 10m air pistol and 25m pistol events.
