Blue Jays to send RHP Trey Yesavage (knee) to see a specialist
The Toronto Blue Jays will send right-hander Trey Yesavage to a specialist for his left knee injury, with surgery a possibility.
Yesavage was placed in the injured list Wednesday with what was labeled left knee inflammation. On Saturday, the club revealed its rookie starter will see a specialist on Monday in Texas.
“(Surgery) is always a possibility,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters. “We’re obviously hoping to avoid that.”
Yesavage, 23, made his major league debut last season but retained his rookie status while making just three starts. He went 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA over those three starts then went 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA in six postseason appearances (five starts). The first-round draft pick (No. 20 overall) in 2024 was the winning pitcher in Game 5 of last season’s World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers when he allowed one run over seven innings.
In 18 starts this season for Toronto, Yesavage is 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA.
