Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. exits vs. Yankees after collision
The Toronto Blue Jays will finish off Friday’s game against the New York Yankees without their first baseman.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. exited the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after a collision with Yankees infielder George Lombard Jr. as he slid into third base. Guerrero quickly stood up and scored on a fielding error after the collision, but did not return to the game.
Charles McAdoo replaced Guerrero at first in the top of the seventh.
Prior to exiting, Guerrero had gone 1-for-3 against Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, hitting a single and scoring the tying run for the Blue Jays.
The slugger is having a cold 2026 with a .263/.337/.356 slash line prior to Friday’s game and just seven home runs — none of which have come at Rogers Centre.
Guerrero has missed numerous games through an injury-riddled campaign, with his most recent absence coming earlier this month, when he missed three games due to hamstring tightness.
