Ex-Heavyweight Champ Hasim Rahman delivers KO verdict for Wilder vs Chisora
Former unified heavyweight world champion Hasim Rahman has looked ahead to April’s veteran showdown between Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder, predicting that the contest will end by knockout.
Chisora was advised to retire by fighters and fans when he came up short in a second challenge for the heavyweight throne against Tyson Fury, back in December 2022. However, the beloved big man has continued to fight on and has surprisingly strung together three straight victories since.
Although, Chisora has promised that his next outing will be his last, as he reaches fight number 50 in his professional career, bowing out on home soil against former WBC champion Wilder, who will also achieve the same landmark half-century bout in the contest.
At ages of 43 and 40 respectively, some have criticised whether Chisora and Wilder should still be fighting, but Rahman told FightHype that he believes the clash is fair game, because of their similar ages.
“The way that I look at it is this, if you are talking about one of them fighting somebody significant younger than them, then there might be an issue, it might be something to talk about.
“But, you are talking about both of them, the playing field is even, so it’s OK.
“It washes out, it evens itself out, both of them are in the same boat, so what is the difference? Ain’t no advantage, either way.”
When discussing the scrap itself, ‘The Rock’, who famously knocked out Lennox Lewis to become the heavyweight champion in 2001, forecasted that the outcome of the fight will hinge on how much Wilder has declined, but that the judges will not be needed either way.
“I think that, if Deontay has anything left, he should win the fight by knockout. But, if Deontay is through, with his wars with Tyson Fury, then I see Derek outworking him and possibly stopping him late.”
Wilder-Chisora takes place on Saturday, April 4, at the O2 Arena in London, and will be available to watch live via DAZN PPV.

Winter Olympics: Closing ceremony live
February 22, 2026
Closing ceremony for 2026 Olympics begins
And we’re off! The stunning Verona Arena is ready and starts in a fashion familiar to it, with an operatic performance getting things going in front of an audience mostly wrapped up in disposable ponchos.

European nations dominate Winter Olympic medal table
As mentioned earlier, there was a distinctly European feel to the top of the medal table. Aside from the US in 2nd and Japan in 10th, the rest of the top 10 on the table were European nations.
While we wait for the ceremony to begin, it might be a good time to look at our stories on how big a difference hosting has made for the Italians and the German ski jumper who overcame a fear of heights to win gold.

Final weekend brings protests and PR gaffes
Even at this late stage, there have been a couple of significant news lines from the Games’ final weekend. On Saturday, the IOC cleared FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who is also an IOC member, saying he had not broken the Olympic Charter’s neutrality requirement by donning a red MAGA-style USA hat at the first meeting of Donald Trump’s Board of Peace earlier in the week.
IOC chief Kirsty Coventry said she didn’t even know Infantino was an IOC member when pressed ahead of the decision during a press conference where she admitted she “wasn’t aware” of a number of issues which face her organization.
Then, on Sunday, ahead of the closing ceremony, protesters took the streets of Verona to object to having had the Games in their region. Hundreds of people marched through Verona just hours before the ceremony was set to start to protest against housing costs and environmental concerns linked to the Winter Games.
The “Olympics? No thanks” rally was organised by university groups and others that oppose hosting an event they say disrupts forests, pours concrete onto fragile land and deepens social inequality.

Politics and sport prove tough to separate at 2026 Olympics
While there have been countless sporting achievements, there have also been plenty of moments during this Games where the spotlight was away from the events.
Perhaps the biggest was the IOC decision to ban Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych from wearing a helmet that featured images of Ukrainian athletes killed during Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Heraskevych told DW moments after his disqualification was announced that: “If (the) IOC reacts in a way with common sense, we will not have this terrible scandal now. And then there is much less politics in this competition and also much more attention (being paid) to the athletes in the competition now.”
The new boss of the IOC, Kirsty Coventry had tears down her eyes when announcing the decision, admitting that it was ” a message of memory and no one is disagreeing with that” but confirming it broke IOC rules.
There were also protests against the presence of American ICE agents, a British skier urinating a profanity against Donald Trump in the snow and the decision, announced during these Games, that Russian athletes can compete under their national flag at the upcoming Paralympics.

What to expect from the Olympic closing ceremony
Organizers the IOC have promised to tell the story of Italy through a “tapestry of music, art, and storytelling,” adding that the ceremony will showcase “not only athletic excellence, but also Italian cultural identity and innovation.”
Performers include Italian singer and rapper Achille Lauro, award-winning Roman actress Benedetta Porcaroli and Italian DJ Gabry Ponte.
As with the opening ceremony earlier this month, each nation — with a handful of exceptions — will have chosen athletes to be their flagbearers. In Germany’s case this will be Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt. The pair became the country’s most successful Winter Olympians by each winning a seventh gold in luge.

Welcome to our Winter Olympics closing ceremony coverage!
Hello and welcome to DW’s live blog of the 2026 Winter Olympics closing ceremony.
After 17 days of skiing, sliding, jumping and curling, the USA defeated neighbors Canada to win the last of 116 gold medals at Milan-Cortina. That left the US second on the medal table, six behind Norway whose Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo won six on his own, becoming the most successful Winter Olympian of all time in the process.
With the sport over, it will soon be time for the curtain to officially come down on the Games. The closing ceremony will take place at the Verona Olympic Arena, a beautifully preserved ancient amphitheater built in 30AD and is scheduled to start at 20:30 CET and run for somewhere approaching three hours.

Women’s FA Cup: Holders Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal into last eight
Holders Chelsea edged past Manchester United into the FA Cup quarter-finals thanks to an extra-time tap-in from defender Naomi Girma.
The United States international prodded home from close range in the 99th minute to open her goal account for the Blues after the visitors had failed to clear their lines from a corner.
It was a disappointing end to the tie for Marc Skinner’s side, who had battled from behind to take the contest into extra-time.
Substitute Simi Awujo arrived at the back post on 81 minutes to cancel out Sam Kerr’s opener – the Australian had come off the bench to steer home Veerle Buurman’s knockdown three minutes prior.
Chelsea had beaten United in last season’s final and victory will hand Sonia Bompastor’s side a psychological edge over the Red Devils before they meet again in the League Cup final at Ashton Gate on 15 March.
Elsewhere, captain Kim Little scored for a second FA Cup tie in a row as 14-time winners Arsenal claimed a 3-0 victory over Bristol City.
Victoria Pelova and Frida Maanum were also on target in a second half that was blighted by a head injury to winger Olivia Smith, who was stretchered off.
Manchester City are also through after ruthlessly despatching second-tier Sheffield United 4-0.
The Women’s Super League leaders raced into a three-goal lead inside 22 minutes thanks to two close-range finishes from Lauren Hemp, and a low drive from Aoba Fujino. Laura Coombs poked home their fourth in the 90th minute.
Brighton ran out 2-1 winners at West Ham in another all-WSL tie, as manager Dario Vidosic returned to the dugout.
The 38-year-old has been away from the team in Australia for the past month after the passing of his father Rado, who was also Brighton’s women’s and girls’ head of coaching.
Veteran Fran Kirby rolled back the years with a goal and assist in a commanding first-half display, with Leila Wandeler’s 75th-minute goal unable to inspire a West Ham fightback.
Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic prevailed in the only ties not involving top-flight clubs.
Oceane Hurtre scored a hat-trick in an 8-0 rout for the Blues over Chatham Town on Friday night, while the Addicks edged out fourth-tier Oxford thanks to Lucy Fitzgerald’s 76th-minute penalty.
London City Lionesses host capital neighbours Tottenham on Monday, 23 February (19:30 GMT) in the remaining fifth-round tie.

Stretan Ruler eyes 2026 Golden Slipper with Silver Slipper demolition
At Rosehill Gardens, Pakenham’s Phillip Stokes confessed to momentary confusion, but his star colt Stretan Ruler cut straight through for a resounding conquest of the Group 2 $300,000 Silver Slipper (1100m) held on Saturday.
The impressive Stretan Ruler turned heads by dashing the 1100m track in a brisk 1:03.64s, prevailing by 3-1/2 lengths against elite Sydney two-year-olds.
“I couldn’t remember the last time I had been at Rosehill, I got a bit lost but I know where I am now,” Stokes said.
“I’ve never had a Golden Slipper starter before, never been close, so this is a great thrill. He’s a very exciting colt going forward.”
Chad Schofield aboard the $5.50 shot Stretan Ruler was untouchable, dominating Eviction Notice ($31) as Hidrix ($3.60 fav) trailed a long head back for third.
Stokes had the colt in the mix for Saturday’s Group 1 $2 million Blue Diamond at Caulfield, yet barrier 19 led to withdrawal in favour of the Silver Slipper.
This result secures Stretan Ruler’s slot in the Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21.
Remarkably, TAB Fixed Odds listed Stretan Ruler at $101 for the Golden Slipper on Saturday morning, shrinking to $11 second favourite after the victory.
Stokes plans a single further preparation for his charge before the Golden Slipper.
“We will go two weeks to the Todman Stakes, that seems to be the race that sets up well (for the Golden Slipper),” Stokes said.
“I thought he was nearly there today. I just think the trip away now, he will take a lot of benefit from this, first time going Sydney way, too.
“I obviously thought enough of him to have him in the Blue Diamond but we scratched because of the barrier (19). He’s a very nice horse.”
Schofield lauded the colt Stretan Ruler for his “great attitude, very genuine and just oozes quality.”
“He’s got a very good turn of foot,” Schofield said.
“The blinkers obviously sharpened him right up, he travelled well on a hot speed, and then accelerated sharply off that and was very strong through the line. He couldn’t have been any more impressive.”
Stretan Ruler stands ready to claim the ninth Silver Slipper-Golden Slipper double, like Farnan (2020), She Will Reign (2017), Mossfun (2014), Pierro (2012), Luskin Star (1977), Baguette (1970) and Eskimo Prince (1964).

A Radical NBA Draft Proposal That Could End Tanking for Good
In the wake of Emmanuel Clase having the audacity to go public with his desire to throw 0-2 fastballs in the dirt, the NBA has issues of its own when it comes to teams intentionally veering from the desired target.
Fortunately, I have a solution to the so-called problem.
In fact, I can resolve TWO of the league’s biggest issues at the same time, which makes my idea the best.
Seemingly everyone with a phone or a keyboard has a brilliant scheme on how to keep NBA teams from tanking. Most of them miss the mark for one basic reason:
The goal of the draft MUST continue to be to help bad teams. If your solution doesn’t aid in narrowing the talent gap between the league’s haves and its have-nots, then you need to try again.
Better yet, focus your save-the-world fixes for curling.
One problem up-and-comers have in the NBA is the salary cap. You can’t just go out and snatch up a bunch of big-time players without maxing out your credit card real fast.
Did you know that every team in the NBA except the Nets is over the misnomered cap? As a league, the 30 teams are legally cheating by a total of almost $1.3 billion this season.
Even the Dodgers must be envious.
So what you have are two types of teams trying to get better – the bad ones by coasting into a more desirable draft position, and the rich ones by playing games with the cap.
I’m left wondering: Which is really the top-of-the-list problem?
We can agree to disagree on that, and that’s OK, because my goal is to lessen the popularity of each.
Consider this:
- Only teams under the salary cap on the day of the draft get to use their first-round pick.
- Hand in hand, the draft lottery is restructured to include ALL teams, each with the same odds of earning the top slot.
This would eliminate any incentive to tank. At the same time, it would give teams a reason to start adhering to the spirit of the salary cap.
Here’s how this works:
When the Finals have crowned a champ in mid-June, all franchises are given two weeks to get their finances in order for the following season.
Then, on or around July 1, the draft lottery is held.
After the ping pong balls have landed, any team under the cap gets to keep its pick in the slot determined by the lottery.
But any team over the cap must either trade its slot or forfeit its first-rounder.
Think about it …
No more tanking and a shrinking in the disparity in payrolls.
Both are good things, right? And they could happen at the same time.
I know what some of you are thinking: If only the Nets are under the salary cap, why hold a lottery? Aren’t they assured of making the one and only first-round pick?
No, that’s not the case.
As noted, teams – even those over the cap – would be allowed to trade their lottery-created draft slots. But here’s the catch: Since it has no financial value, the pick could only be dealt for a future pick or picks, or in a package in which matching salaries are included.
In either case, it would almost surely be a team under the cap that acquired the draft slot. Because only they can use the pick that season.
So, again, no tanking, yet the desired result: A bad team gets better.
As for the Nets … as we stand today, the Grizzlies are in line to join them under the cap at the start of the NBA’s next fiscal year in July, while the Hornets and Jazz are close enough that a little roster creativity could get them in.
If this rule had been in place at the recent trade deadline, no doubt others would have maneuvered to get themselves into better financial shape.
By the end of next season, when the Lakers and Bulls already are scheduled to be under the cap, you’d likely have a lot more teams that qualify to make first-round picks. This following a season in which the financial gap has shrunk and bad teams have added the best young talent, creating greater parity to go with the lesser incentive to lose.
Problem(s) solved.
You want to take it another step? Do a lottery for the second round as well. Teams, say, $50 million over the cap (there are nine right now) are excluded, and there would be no incentive to lose games in order to get the best second-round picks.
Sorry, Emmanuel. With my pitch, you get a home run on 0-2.

‘Drop the ego’: Aiden Markram after South Africa thrash India in opening T20 World Cup Super 8 clash | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: South Africa hammered India by 76 runs in their opening Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup, handing the hosts a reality check and exposing serious flaws in their batting at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Chasing 188, India collapsed to 111 in 18.5 overs on a tricky surface, with the Proteas bowlers dominating throughout. Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj and Corbin Bosch led a collective bowling effort, while Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant spell earlier in the game went in vain. For South Africa, David Miller, Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs played crucial roles in lifting the total to 187/7 after an early wobble.
After the match, South Africa captain Aiden Markram praised his team for reading the conditions well and executing their plans. “Great performance. Very different type of wicket to what we’ve had here, so great to see the boys assess that pretty early and adapt their skills to execute their plans,” he said at the post-match presentation. Markram highlighted the importance of the Miller-Brevis partnership, adding, “I think first and foremost was the partnership. (Miller and Brevis) The guys were great, put that together for us, steadied the ship and kept us in the game.”He explained how the team adjusted its approach in the latter half of the innings, noting, “so it was about finding space where we could run hard, drop the ego and take as much as we could at the back end.” Markram also praised his bowling group, calling their performance a big boost after a slow start to the tournament. “We’re going to make mistakes, we don’t mind that as a group, so we’ll brush those aside. We feel like Lungi is a threat whenever he bowls and that he can take wickets for us in that middle phase. It depends on conditions,” he added.Looking ahead, he warned against complacency, describing West Indies as “a dangerous T20 side” and stressing the need to stay sharp for the upcoming clash.India, meanwhile, endured a disastrous batting display. Early wickets put them on the back foot, and none of the top-order batters managed to build a meaningful innings on a surface where the ball gripped, and timing was difficult. Even Suryakumar Yadav struggled to find fluency, while the middle order could not recover from the early collapse. Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube tried to rebuild, but South Africa’s disciplined bowling plans shut down any late fightback.

13-Year-Old Hephzibah Okon Stuns Older Athletes to Win 800m Gold at 2nd Niger Delta Games
Thirteen-year-old Hephzibah Gabriel Okon produced a remarkable performance at the 2nd Niger Delta Games, clinching gold in the Women’s 800m final at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Her victory over older, more experienced athletes has captured the attention of sports fans and added a major boost to Team Akwa Ibom’s medal tally.
The Games, organised by Dunamis Icon and sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), were officially declared open on Friday, February 20, and will run until February 26 in Benin City.
Hephzibah clocked an impressive 2 minutes 18 seconds, demonstrating composure, speed, and maturity beyond her age. Speaking after her victory, she said, “I am really happy to win this gold for Team Akwa Ibom. The support from our State Government, led by our amazing, sports-loving Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Honourable Commissioner and sports administrators keeps us motivated to give our best every day. This is just the beginning—I’m aiming even higher for Nigeria at senior competitions.”

The young athlete, who specialises in the 800m and 1500m events, has credited her family for nurturing her talent. She began training alongside her brother at a young age, while her father, who also serves as her coach, has been instrumental in developing her discipline and technique.

The memory of the late Johnny Gaudreau weighed heavily on the hearts and minds of Team USA men’s hockey throughout the Winter Olympics as the Americans carried his spirit throughout the Games.
Gaudreau’s jersey was a mainstay for Team USA as they honored the late Columbus Blue Jackets star throughout the Milan Cortina Games. Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, were killed by an alleged drunk driver in New Jersey in August 2024. They were in town for their sister’s wedding.

The U.S. won the gold medal on Sunday over Canada. Zach Werenski and Matthew Tkachuk carried Gaudreau’s No. 13 jersey around the ice as the latest tribute for the hockey player.
Gaudreau’s parents, Guy and Jay, his widow Meredith, and their oldest children were in attendance. John Jr. and his sister Noa were brought onto the ice for the team photo as the U.S. celebrated winning gold. It was also John Jr.’s second birthday.

“He was so near and dear to us,” Brady Tkachuk said. “We did it for him.”
Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan said before the gold medal game that Gaudreau would have been on the Olympic team if he were still alive.
“He was one of America’s very best,” Sullivan said. “He’s just a good person on the ice and off the ice, and I think he’s an inspiration to our players to this very day.”
Those closest to him will now celebrate in his memory, including those who were on the Blue Jackets, including Werenski. Team USA’s Noah Hanifin played with Gaudreau while they were on the Calgary Flames.
