Canadian defender Bombito set for second surgery on left tibia
Canadian national team defender Moïse Bombito is set to undergo surgery on his left tibia once again, his club team Nice announced Wednesday.
The Ligue 1 team in France said the Montreal native was dealing with chronic pain that prompted a scan on his leg before determining surgery to be the next step.
Bombito initially fractured his tibia on Oct. 5 but came back in time to compete for Canada at the FIFA World Cup this summer.
The 26-year-old played in three of Canada’s five games, with two starts, as Canada fell to Morocco in the quarterfinals.
In an interview the team posted online, Bombito said that he gave Canada coach Jesse Marsch his word that he would play in the tournament, not wanting to miss out on the chance to play at home.
However, he mentioned it was a struggle and that it was his heart going “against my body.”
