Charlie Woods disrupted by phone in U.S. junior amateur qualifying
Charlie Woods’ U.S. Junior Amateur tournament has come to an unfortunate end.
Woods was eliminated from match-play contention in a playoff hole on Wednesday, making bogey after a fan’s phone disrupted his third shot on the par-five.
The bogey made him fall out of the 14-for-2 playoff.
“Really dude,” Woods, the 17-year-old son of Tiger, responded while dropping his club.
The ensuing shot was left on the fringe of the green, and he sent his birdie chip past the hole to end his hopes of moving on at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Penn.
Woods, who sits 174th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, had made a strong run to get into the playoff, rallying to shoot 1-under over his final 31 regulation holes after opening 6-over through five.
He has never competed in the U.S. Junior Amateur or U.S. Amateur tournaments.
Woods, who is headed to his senior year of high school, has a college commitment to Florida State.
