Dodgers activate Mookie Betts from injured list, option Alex Freeland
Los Angeles activated shortstop Mookie Betts from the injured list on Monday and optioned Alex Freeland to triple-A Oklahoma City.
Betts hit the IL on April 5 with a right oblique strain.
The 2018 AL MVP left a 10-5 victory over the Washington Nationals after walking and scoring in the first inning. Manager Dave Roberts said the Dodgers believe Betts was initially injured on a check swing during the at-bat.
Betts was hitting .179 in Los Angeles’ first eight games. The 33-year-old hit .258 with 20 homers and 82 RBIs in 150 games last season.
He completed a two-game rehab stint in triple-A, where he went 2-for-5 with a walk.
Betts will look to boost a slumping Dodgers lineup, which ranks 23rd in baseball with a .660 OPS over the last two weeks.
He will bat second on Monday as L.A. opens a series at home against the San Francisco Giants.
