Former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has been appointed to lead the Super Falcons on an interim basis for their 2028 Olympic qualifying matches against Comoros.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the appointment is temporary as the search for a permanent head coach continues.
Eguavoen, popularly known as ‘Cerezo’, has extensive experience at international level. He led the Super Eagles to a bronze medal at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
He will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, head coach of Nigeria Women’s Football League side Nasarawa Amazons.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa will work with the team as goalkeeper trainer, while former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf will also serve as an assistant coach.
Nigeria will face Comoros in the second round of the Olympic qualifiers, with both matches scheduled for the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and 13, 2026.
The Super Falcons received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the competition. Comoros reached this stage after beating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.
Nigeria must pass through four rounds of two-legged ties to secure one of Africa’s two places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
If the Super Falcons beat Comoros, they will face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco in the third round in February and March 2027.
