Freshly-Signed Vikings Weapon Sends Out a Menacing Warning

Go ahead and test DeeJay Dallas. See how it works out. That’s what the new Vikings weapon wants to get across to Minnesota’s foes as a Week 2 Bears game awaits.

Dawn Mitchell offers her Vikings coverage for FOX9. She pulled the runner aside for a quick chat, leading to a social media post where she asked about his now infamous head shot for the team. Check it out if you haven’t already:

In response to Mitchell’s queries, Dallas made some jokes about wanting the other team to put his photo up in preparation for the games, noting that “it kind of embodies like the Vikings mentality, that berserker mentality.”

And then if the opponent can take any liberties with him: “I mean, teams probably will look at it and say, ‘oh, this guy is making a joke.’ I’m not making a joke, I’m serious, I’m so serious. And if we are on the field and you got a chance, try it. Try it.”

At 5’10” and 225 pounds, Dallas is a well-built guy. There’s a calmness to his final words — the repeated “try it” — that hits the ear as unsettling. That appears to be the point.

Consider some of the wallop that he can pack into his shoulder pads with an eye-popping special teams rep from Week 1. He put a Packers defender onto his backside:

Aaron Jones is now operating as the clear RB1.

Prior to the Jordan Mason injury, Jones was functioning as the 1A to Mason’s 1B (or the inverse of that, perhaps). Not so with the contract-year Viking on the IR. Expect Jones, himself a physical guy, to be featured prominently as a runner who demands the bulk of the touches.

Next up would appear to be DeeJay Dallas, somebody who has challenged defenders to try taking liberties with him. The veteran newcomer appears confident in his ability to handle himself on the gridiron. He’ll even go so far as to do a goofy-yet-menacing photo to prompt the other team to challenge him.

Originally, Dallas got into the NFL as a Seahawks selection in the 4th Round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He therefore has a history with Nolan Teasley. Last week, the depth runner had a single catch go for a yard. Modest.

But then there was the special teams effort. Hustling down the field with bad intentions and a pile of power has a way of getting a coach’s attention. So, don’t be surprised that he was the move when there needed to be more running back depth.

The Vikings’ best bet for overcoming Chicago in Week 2 involves a ferocious ground attack. Chew up the clock by putting together the sort of long, sustained drives that were often missing last week. Carson Wentz will be getting the start, so giving the veteran journeyman some explosive runs would appear to be precisely what the purple doctor ordered.

DeeJay Dallas, 28, could be a nice part of the mix as somebody who appears confident in his capacity to handle business out there. The new Vikings weapon is wearing the #31 jersey.
