The hype train continues to roll for LSU football safety Ty Benefield. The Boise State transfer was named a Preseason Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press this week.

Benefield has earned rave reviews since arriving at LSU in the spring. Benefield spent three years at Boise State before entering the transfer portal. He brings over 2,000 snaps to Blake Baker‘s defense and was a member of Boise State’s College Football Playoff team in 2024. Benefield turned down the NFL Draft to remain in college and now has a chance to be a first-round pick in 2027.

Benefield notched 71 stops and picked off five passes with Boise State. Per PFF, he has 175 career tackles and two forced fumbles.

LSU’s secondary should be one of the best in the nation. Along with Benefield at safety, LSU returns two standout corners in PJ Woodland and DJ Pickett. TaMarcus Cooley and DaShawn Spears are also expected to be difference-makers at the safety position.
