All you need to know about Manchester United’s pre-season plans…

  1. United usually begin their pre-season in the first week of July at Carrington. The players will report for training after their summer break, and fitness tests will be taken to gauge where their bodies are at.
  2. The World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19. United have 12 senior players representing their nations at the tournament, and they will be given time off once their international commitments end, which means pre-season will be an opportunity for United’s young players to stake a claim.
  3. At this stage, this is the list of first-team players who will be available for pre-season: Andre Onana, Tom Heaton, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, Mason Mount, Joshua Zirkzee, Bryan Mbeumo, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko.
  4. The Reds were aiming to complete the signing of Ederson so he could feature in pre-season, but his late call-up to the Brazil squad for the World Cup means his arrival will be delayed.
  5. United will play Wrexham (Helsinki, Finland), Rosenborg (Trondheim, Norway), Atletico Madrid (Stockholm, Sweden), Paris Saint-Germain (Gothenburg, Sweden), Leeds (Dublin, Republic of Ireland) and AC Milan (Wroclaw, Poland).
  6. United’s pre-season tours around the world have been hugely commercially successful, but the club will stay in Europe this summer to protect players from clocking up thousands of air miles.
  7. United did not travel abroad for pre-season in 2020 or 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the Reds have played outside their own continent in every other summer since 2003. Excluding the pandemic years, the last time United spent an entire pre-season in Europe was 2002.
  8. United are planning to include talented youngster JJ Gabriel in their pre-season tour squad. United are keen to show Gabriel there is a pathway to the first-team, and taking him on tour would be another show of faith in his huge potential.
  9. Shea Lacey and Tyler Fletcher are among the young players who are hoping to impress. Lacey and Fletcher were both given minutes from the bench on the final day of the season against Brighton.
