KL Rahul Hits Bullseye, Explains What Makes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi So Good: “Never Even Dreamt”

Delhi Capitals (DC) star batter KL Rahul praised the new generation of Indian batters for their fearless and aggressive approach, highlighting talents like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre rising in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He noted that these young players play without fear of reputation or match situations, taking on even top bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins with the same attacking intent. Rahul explained that this mindset reflects a shift in Indian cricket, especially in T20S, where players now grow up focusing on power-hitting rather than traditional defensive techniques.

He credited IPL for driving this change, as young cricketers now train specifically to hit sixes consistently. He added that their strong preparation builds confidence, something he is also trying to incorporate into his own game.

“It’s phenomenal what the new-age cricketers are doing. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has taken world cricket by storm. Two centuries at the age of 15 is something I never even dreamt of doing. Ayush Mhatre has also done well, helping CSK score quick runs. The amount of talent coming up in India is scary, especially in T20 cricket. These fearless prodigies are changing the way T20S are played,” KL Rahul said on JioStar.

“They don’t fear reputations or match situations. Whether it’s a world-class bowler like Jasprit Bumrah or a seasoned campaigner like Pat Cummins, they go after every ball with the same intent. They don’t care if it’s the first over or the last. They just see the ball and want to hit it out of the park. That kind of mindset is rare, and it’s exactly what modern T20 cricket demands. Five years ago, we weren’t producing as many six-hitting batters as England or Australia. Now, things have changed, thanks to the IPL. These guys grew up wanting to hit sixes. When we were young, we had to learn to defend and keep the ball. Hitting in the air meant sitting out of the nets. It was a different time. These youngsters practice six-hitting constantly. That’s why they’re so good. I spoke to Abhishek Sharma recently. What I’ve learned is that their preparation gives them confidence. It all comes down to how hard they train. I’ve tried to bring that into my own game as well,” he added.

A defining trend of the Indian Premier League 2026 season has been the emergence of young batters leading the scoring charge for their teams.

Players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, along with Sameer Rizvi and Ayush Mhatre (whose campaign was cut short by a hamstring injury), have stood out with their explosive six-hitting and match-defining performances.

That is second again only to Shaw, but given the Jamaica striker has scored more than double the number of goals, she probably has more credit in the bank.

It could be why Blackstenius is sometimes reduced to a bit-part role at Emirates Stadium – or perhaps it is the standard of competition.

After all, she is up against one of the best strikers in the world in Russo, England heroes Chloe Kelly and Beth Mead, £1m Canada winger Olivia Smith and Arsenal stalwart Caitlin Foord for a starting spot.

“This club feels a lot like home.”

It has also been the home of the Champions League trophy for the past year. If they avoid defeat against eight-time winners Lyon, Arsenal will have the chance of notable back-to-back titles.

LIV Golf needs money. Here’s what next steps might look like

The swirl around LIV Golf’s tenuous state reached the White House on Thursday.

In an Oval Office press conference, President Trump was asked to reflect — against the backdrop of the Saudi Public Investment Fund announcing that it is pulling its LIV funding at the end of the 2026 season — on whether he believed the PGA Tour should welcome “the defectors back with open arms”?

Trump, seated at his desk, said that, yes, he would like to see LIV’s top players reintegrated. “I want to see Rory [McIlroy] playing Bryson DeChambeau,” he said. “I want to see big Jon Rahm playing Scottie [Scheffler], who is so great.”

But as for what the future holds for LIV, the president, whose Northern Virginia golf property will play host to a LIV event next week, sounded like he is as uncertain as the rest of us.

“I’m not sure what’s happening with LIV,” he said.  

What we do know is that the PIF is out, by way of a larger strategic pivot from the Kingdom’s coffer keepers and oil-revenue stresses caused by the war in the Middle East. The beginnings of a new LIV board also are in place, led by corporate restructuring veterans Gene Davis and Jon Zinman, who LIV said in a statement have been charged with “institutionalizing the league and evaluating the range of strategic opportunities that have emerged with the league’s rise.”

Selling LIV will, of course, not be easy, at least not in its current form. The league, according to published estimates, has lost anywhere from $5 to $8 billion since its 2021 inception and spends more than $100 million per month. Its own CEO, Scott O’Neil, has said any hope of profitability could be a decade away. You don’t need an accounting degree to understand that the math, at least in the short term and quite possibly in the long term, too, just doesn’t work. So now it’s Davis, Zinman and Co.’s job to put together an offer that will entice an investor or investors. If the board is unsuccessful in that quest, it’ll shift into disassemble mode.

With financial questions suddenly lingering over LIV, I consulted two mergers-and-acquisitions executives to get a better sense for what the league’s next steps might look like; both experts requested anonymity for professional concerns.

“What happens is people come in, they’re independent and they are looking to maximize value,” a corporate restructuring expert with experience in the sports world told me in a phone interview Thursday. “They will identify all the options that there are, and they’ll pursue all those options to a point that what makes the most sense. And then at the end of the day, they prepare a plan for the worst options, whatever that is. That includes a going-out-of-business option, which is the floor value.”

LIV’s floor-value figure is anybody’s guess, but the league does have significant assets that include contracted players, 13 team franchises and hundreds of millions of dollars in sponsorships. The “LIV Golf” name also is worth something.  

“There’s brand equity there,” a second executive, who oversees transactions for a global professional services firm, said on Friday. “You also could argue whether there’s value in the way they run the organization. It’s very different than golf as we know it.” The same executive added that as part of the commercial due-diligence process, a prospective buyer would likely analyze LIV’s fan base. “If it’s 10 percent more people that wouldn’t normally watch the Masters or Players or something like that, then maybe there’s value there.”

That LIV is a sports property also could benefit it, both executives said. A deep-pocketed “vanity buyer” could emerge, drawn by the appeal of having entrée to the golf world and brand-name golfers. The first executive, who has experience in buying and selling teams, said sports sales typically aren’t driven by traditional economics.

“[Teams] are not based on what their actual cash flow value is,” he said. “It’s based upon somebody wanting to own a sports team. And there’s only so many of them.”

The second executive posited that another “completely outside-of-the-box” suitor also could come along, like, say, a casino or sportsbook. As with any sale, it’s hard to predict who might show interest.

Trouble is, despite LIV’s push to market team golf, the league still is largely known for and powered by its stars, like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, who were drawn away from the PGA Tour by nine-figure deals. If a new investor can’t see a path to turning a profit with that kind of recurring outlay, the buyer(s) would be left either trying to convince LIV’s shiniest players to take pay cuts or reimagine the league with a less heralded roster of players. Either route would be challenging. “I’m usually a creative guy,” the first executive told me. “But I’m hard-pressed to come up with a rationale as to why someone would buy something that is hemorrhaging billions with no light at the end of the tunnel.”

Said the transactions executive, “This could be one of those situations where the purchase price is a dollar, and someone just takes the liabilities off your hands.”

Sports law and business professor Andrew Brandt was wowed when LIV came along. He said he could never have imagined that one of the established U.S. sports leagues could have its stars wooed away by an upstart competitor, but he also could never have imagined that a wooer could have the financial might of the PIF.    

“It was just such an extraordinary time in sports,” said Brandt, a former sports agent and NFL executive who is now executive director of the Moorad Center for the Study of Sports Law at Villanova Law. “You have these leagues, you have these tours, you have these elite properties and there’s never any challenges. But the one thing that could make it a challenge, of course, is unlimited funding. That’s what made LIV so different than any other sports league rival. It appeared that there was unlimited funding.”

Until there wasn’t.   

“It’s something I never contemplated,” Brandt said of the PIF’s pivot. “I just thought, OK, unlimited funding, throw a few billion at the LIV tour, have your billions for whatever else you want to do. But there’s a change of heart from the PIF and that to me is the most surprising part of all this.”

LIV has seven events left on its 2026 schedule. That number was eight before the Louisiana event, slated for June, was unexpectedly postponed earlier this week. LIV Virginia, at Trump’s course, begins Thursday. Then comes a three-event run overseas (Korea, Spain and England) followed by the season’s final three-event finale back in the U.S. (New Jersey, Indiana and Michigan).

And then? That’s a question to which we might not have an answer for months. If a sale or some kind of merger is unsuccessful, LIV could be no more. In that scenario, one of the executives said, “You would take each of the liabilities and try to negotiate with each of the parties to an end.” If any parties are still owed money, they could potentially file lawsuits, the executive said, “but who wants to get involved with suing a Saudi sovereign fund? That could take a while.”

Another title confirmed for controversial Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven fight

This month, Oleksandr Usyk faces Rico Verhoeven at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

Usyk currently holds three of the four major heavyweight world titles, and has been permitted by the WBC to defend its belt against Verhoeven, despite the challenger having just one professional boxing bout to his name alongside a decorated kickboxing career

Though the IBF and WBA are yet to clarify their stance on the fight, the Ring Magazine belt has now also been confirmed to be on the line, according a recent social media post.

Usyk became the Ring’s heavyweight champion back in 2022 when Tyson Fury relinquished the title and it was put on the line for the his first clash with Anthony Joshua. He has since retained it against ‘AJ’ in their rematch, as well as against Daniel Dubois and Tyson Fury twice.

Previous holders of the belt include Jack Johnson, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. Though few in the sport give unranked Verhoeven much of a chance in the May 23 main event of The Ring Magazine show, he has nonetheless put himself in unlikely contention to join that list of legends.

Usyk will hope that the IBF and WBA follow suit or, at least, allow him to compete in the fight without stripping him. Neither belt was present at the event’s initial press conference.

If he can remain unified champion, the 39-year-old said he will return to the more traditional path after Verhoeven and target the winner of Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois, driven by the chance to become a three-time undisputed heavyweight champion after also holding all four belts at cruiserweight.

The Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes kicked off the May 1 edition of Friday Night SmackDown with his promo. The American Nightmare spoke about what’s next for him as the titleholder and announced that he has been medically cleared to compete. His promo was cut short by Ricky Saints, who laid a challenge for The Prodigal Son.

Rhodes, a fighting champion, accepted the challenge to face Saints that night, and a non-title match was booked between the real-life friends.

Later, the same night, The American Nightmare and Ricky locked horns in a singles match which was techicanal battle and the chesmity between Saints and Rhodes on a different level, the ending of the match was also creative, when Cody managed to turn former NXT Champion’s Razor’s Edge move into his own Cross Rhodes and sealed a clean win over the newest member of blue brand, welcoming him in the big league.

However, that wasn’t the shock: the Prodigal Son was celebrating his big win over Ricky when Gunther jumped the American Nightmare from behind, putting him into his signature Sleeper Choke, making the Champion unconscious in the middle of the ring. Then, The Ring General locked his eyes on the Undisputed WWE Championship and showed it to the crowd, showing his true urge to capture the strap.

In this listicle, we will explore three reasons why Gunther attacked Cody and why he is next in line for the Undisputed Championship.

#4. Randy Orton may be unfit

The Orton-Rhodes saga is nowhere to end, as their main-event match at WrestleMania Saturday ended with a cliffhanger, where, despite losing clean to the Prodigal Son, The Apex Predator snapped and took his protege out with a Punt Kick and also snapped at Pat McAfee, clearly hinting that he is not with Cody.

However, rumors circulated that Orton was injured heading into the match, which also contributed to his failure to win the title. Now, WWE putting Gunther in the Undisputed WWE Championship mix may have subtly confirmed that the rumors may be true. There is a massive chance that The Apex Predator is unfit, as he hasn’t been on television since the Showcase of the Immortals, and now the Ring General has officially replaced him in the feud with Rhodes for now, at least.

#3. To eliminate the predictability from the WWE product

Since Triple H and his creative regime have taken over WWE’s creatives, in their efforts to make the product even more engaging, they also always try to pull off unexpected moves; the Orton and Rhodes saga being directly kicked off again post-Mania was predictable.

Hence, to eliminate predictability, The Game and team crafted a new angle, pitting Gunther against The Prodigal Son, possibly saving Orton vs. Rhodes for a bigger maybe at SummerSlam 2026.

#2. Gunther needed something major

The Ring General is on a massive run and has gained major momentum by retiring three legends, Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, in a row over the course of months. At WrestleMania 42, he beat Seth Rollins after Bron Breakker intervened and punished The Visionary.

Therefore, he indeed needed something bigger, and if by any chance Orton is out, there could be no better name than The Career Killer to replace him, as he needs a big storyline to justify his major push.

That being said, it will be interesting to see where Gunther-Cody goes next in the coming weeks.

#1. Title defense at WWE Backlash

The first PLE after WrestleMania, the Stamford-based promotion is set to host is Backlash Tampa, and the World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns, has already booked to defend his strap against his cousin, Jacob Fatu.

The company may also need to defend its title at the Premium Live Event, and with Randy’s in-ring status probably hanging in doubt, WWE may have replaced him with Gunther to place him on the card.
