Ademola Lookman scored his first La Liga goal for Atletico Madrid as Diego Simeone’s side defeated Sevilla 3–1 on Saturday.

The Nigerian forward doubled Atletico’s lead in the 26th minute with a clever finish into the near post.

Alex Baena had earlier put Atletico ahead in the fourth minute after receiving a fine pass from Lee Kang-in.

Baena then added his second goal seven minutes after Lookman’s strike to give Atletico a comfortable 3–0 lead before half-time.

Sevilla pulled one back through Miguel Sierra in the second half, but Atletico held on to claim all three points.

The victory takes Atletico Madrid to seven points from their opening three league matches, with two wins and a draw, and puts them top of the early La Liga table.

Lookman’s goal is another positive moment for the Nigeria international as he continues to settle into life in Madrid.

The victory also allowed Atletico to put the ongoing Julian Alvarez transfer speculation to one side, with the Argentine striker left out of the squad for the trip to Sevilla.
