Going into the preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Brazil faced a few questions for its squad, with the health of national treasure Neymar being one of them. While that question mark still remains as he has yet to appear in either of Brazil’s pre-World Cup friendlies, they were hit with another question on Saturday night, when Wesley suffered an injury against Egypt.

The fullback was taken off the pitch with what would later be reported as a thigh injury by Reuters.

Ancelotti looks towards Serie A for a call-up

This left Carlo Ancelotti with a decision to make when it comes to filling in Wesley’s spot, and it appears that his mind has been made up, with Ederson receiving a call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

The call-up comes in a season in which Ederson proved to be quite the defensive anchor for Atalanta in their Serie A and Champions League campaigns, making 45 interceptions and winning 49 tackles across his 41 appearances for the Italian side.

This work on the defensive end wouldn’t just catch the eye of Ancelotti and the Brazilian national team, as Manchester United were also big fans of his talents, given that they are in line to sign the 26-year-old, with the deal reaching up to € 45, plus add-ons, according to Romano.

This will be Ederson’s first World Cup camp, having only been a part of Brazil’s squad for the qualifiers and the 2024 Copa America, where he would record one appearance.

The A Seleção are set to get their World Cup campaign off with a match against African powerhouse Morocco on June 13, with the other teams in their group being Haiti and Scotland.
