- Barcelona make ‘final decision’: According to a report in Spanish news outlet Sport, Barcelona have reached a “unanimous” decision to sign Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal once his current loan ends this summer. It has been claimed that unless Rashford suffers a serious injury before the end of the season, Barca intend to offer a three-year contract for the forward.
- Transfer fee terms: United have remained firm on their valuation, refusing to lower the price from the originally agreed-upon terms. United include a €30million (£26million) buy option in Rashford’s loan, something which Barcelona are now reportedly prepared to pay.
- Rashford’s salary sacrifice: To ensure the deal fits within Barcelona’s strict financial fair play and salary cap constraints, Rashford has also reportedly agreed to a significant reduction in his wages. The aforementioned report has claimed that Rashford is willing to “adjust his salary” and take a lower amount than what he was due to receive at Old Trafford.
- United’s position and profit: United would be in line for a major profit if Rashford was to leave the club on a permanent basis for Barcelona. The £26million fee will count as pure profit for United, which could give them a welcome financial boost for the summer transfer window.
- Player’s desire to stay: Rashford has previously admitted to enjoying his time at Barcelona, revealing that he would want to remain at the Camp Nou on a permanent basis. The England international has previously expressed that he feels “at home” in Barcelona. “I don’t see anything here as like a pressure. It’s just, I’m here to play football,” Rashford told BBC Sport in December. “It’s been amazing. I feel welcome, I feel at home.”
- Strategic value of the deal: Barcelona reportedly value the £26million fee to be “affordable” given the current market of players in the same position as Rashford.
