Marcus Rashford wants to move to Barcelona but the Catalan club have yet to trigger their option to sign the forward permanently from Manchester United
Everything you need to know:
- Marcus Rashford has discussed Barcelona with England team-mate Anthony Gordon. The Catalan club’s latest signing has been getting advice from the Manchester United academy product.
- Gordon’s move to La Liga would appear to have placed Rashford’s own transfer in doubt, given they both prefer to play on the left side of attack. But Rashford, 28, had plenty of praise for the club.
- “He was just telling me how good the lads are there, the team spirit that they have, which I heard already from the people in Barca,” Gordons aid. Rashford also provided information on where to live and was described as ‘very caring’ by Gordon.
- After spending a year on loan with the La Liga champions, Barcelona have the option to sign Rashford permanently for £26million. They want to negotiate a lower fee with Manchester United, however.
- The clause is set to expire on June 15, with Barca interested in a lower fee for the forward or the possibility of another loan deal.
- United have insisted that they would not entertain either of those options, but with time running out they will be forced into a decision over whether to soften their stance.
- Old Trafford chiefs will be forced to decide whether they see this summer’s World Cup as an opportunity for Rashford to inflate his price off the back of a promising season. Bayern Munich and Arsenal have been credited with interest.
- Rashford scored 14 goals and recorded 14 assists in his season on loan in La Liga, with important efforts coming domestically and in the Champions League.
- The England star has already agreed that he would halve his £325,000-a-week wage to remain with Barcelona. The player’s salary do not fit into United’s structure under Ineos.
