New York Giants Season Is Probably Over After Jaxson Dart Injury

After two weeks, the New York Giants can turn the page to 2027.

On Tuesday, imaging of Jaxson Dart’s knee injury sustained on Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams turned out to be worse than initially expected. It’s Jameis Winston time in the Big Apple.

This offseason, the Giants were the bell of the ball.

Now, New York’s season is probably over.

Dart gave the organization new life last season, showing serious promise alongside Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo. After the season, the Giants hired John Harbaugh, the biggest fish in this year’s coaching pool, following nearly two decades coaching the Baltimore Ravens.

Harbaugh was declining interviews with other suitors, as it became very apparent that he’d be heading to New York. After all, they looked to be set up very well for the future, with a young roster headlined by Dart that could find success for years to come.

But now Dart’s second year in the NFL has been cut very short due to injury. Last year, Dart only played in 14 games after Russell Wilson started the season, and a concussion sidelined the promising rookie for two weeks.

It’s up to Winston to keep the car on the road.

The Giants like having him around, and rewarded him with a contract extension before the season started. He’s been valuable to Dart’s development, but now he needs to fill in for the 23-year-old and effectively distribute the football to Nabers, Skattebo and the rest of New York’s offense without turning the ball over.

Turnovers and interceptions will be the biggest worry with Winston as QB1. He tossed one in Monday’s 28-6 loss in Los Angeles. In Winston’s other backup roles, interceptions have been his demise.

The Giants also lost star edge rusher Brian Burns during the second half of Monday Night Football with a low ankle sprain. Even though there’s hope he can return soon for the Giants, Burns missing time will undoubtedly negatively impact New York’s defense.

Harbaugh has quite the challenge on his hands now. His starting quarterback is interception prone, his defense lost one of their most important pieces – and the Giants are only two weeks into the season.

New York’s chances of winning the NFC East division have tanked on Kalshi, a prediction market platform that allows users to trade contracts of real-world outcomes like the NFL. At 3:00 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, less than 30 minutes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news about the severity of Dart’s knee injury, the Giants have tanked below 5% to win their division.
