Nuffield Health to provide wellness facilities for leading science campus

Nuffield Health has signed a partnership with the Wellcome Genome Campus to operate a major new health and fitness club at its expanding site in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Opening in 2028, the facility will form part of a major transformation of the internationally significant science campus, which is being expanded from 125 acres to 440 acres. Once the full development is complete, the campus could support a community of up to 9,000 people.

The Wellcome Genome Campus is home to organisations and researchers working in genomics, biodata, health data and data science, with a growing focus on machine learning and AI in health and care.

Unlike a conventional corporate fitness facility, the Nuffield Health club will also be open to the wider community and will combine health and medical services with a substantial health club, sport and recovery offer.

Facilities will include a four-lane, 25-metre swimming pool, gym, climbing and bouldering facilities, an indoor cycling studio, padel courts, Pilates and reformer Pilates studios and a large multi-purpose studio offering group exercise classes.

Recovery, rehabilitation and preventative healthcare facilities will include a large spa pool, cold plunge pool, steamroom and sauna.

Health screenings, GP services and physiotherapy will also be available, creating a pathway into Nuffield Health’s wider healthcare network. Where required, people will be able to access onward referrals to the Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital for diagnostics and surgical procedures.

The health and fitness club will form part of the first phase of the campus expansion, alongside new lab-enabled workspace, called The Sequence, around 84 homes and new F&B venues.

Work on the first phase began earlier this year, with completion scheduled for 2028. The wider masterplan has outline planning permission for up to 1.6 million sq ft of R&D, laboratory, office and other employment space and 1,500 homes for campus workers and their families, supported by community, hospitality, leisure and infrastructure facilities.
