Team India pacer Prasidh Krishna produced a spell for the ages in the ongoing third and final ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai on Saturday, June 20. The 30-year-old bagged five wickets in an innings for the first time in his 25-match ODI career.

In a breathtaking opening spell, Prasidh removed Afghanistan’s first four batters within the opening 10 overs. He later returned to dismiss centurion Hashmatullah Shahidi for 102 to complete his five-wicket haul.

Prasidh’s 5/23 in 8.2 overs are the best bowling figures in an ODI in Chennai. He also became the first Indian bowler to pick up five wickets in an ODI game at the venue.

Prasidh completed his five-wicket milestone with a slower short delivery that Shahidi pulled straight to the deep mid-wicket fielder, Shreyas Iyer.

The five-wicket haul was also Prasidh’s first in an international match as he became only the third Indian bowler to dismiss the top five of the opposition in an ODI.

“I was really, really tired” – Prasidh Krishna on his opening spell

Prasidh Krishna acknowledged being fatigued despite his incredible opening five-over spell in the third ODI against Afghanistan. The speedster boasted remarkable figures of 4/6 in five overs in a phenomenal opening spell in the first 10 overs of the innings.

However, he returned only in the 32nd over and picked up his fifth and final wicket in the 45th over.

“Really happy to be coming in on a hot day, bowling that well, helping the team, so pretty happy now. (Did you want to bowl the sixth over, were you cooked by that time?) No, honestly, I was really, really tired. It was pretty hot, but no complaints. I did end up bowling the fifth one, got the fourth wicket there. But the more important thing for us to turn up on a hot day to put out that performance on the field, really good,” said Prasidh at the mid-innings break (via Cricbuzz).

Prasidh Krishna’s heroics helped India bowl Afghanistan out for a mere 218 in the 45th over as they look to complete a 3-0 series whitewash.
