Heart of Midlothian will meet Fenerbahce or Gornik Zabrze if they get past Sturm Graz in Champions League qualifying.

Third round ties are scheduled for 4 and 11 August.

If Hearts lose out to the Austrians, St Gallen (SWI)/Benfica (POR), Twente (NED)/Ferencvaros (HUN) or Qarabag (AZE)/CSKA Sofia (BUL) await in the Europa League.

Like the Edinburgh club, Fenerbahce and Gornik Zabrze finished as runners-up last season in Turkey and Poland respectively.

Hearts last took part in Champions League qualifying in 2006-07, losing out at the third qualifying round stage to AEK Athens.

Rangers, Motherwell and Hibernian await news of their potential European opponents when the third qualifying round draws are made for the Europa League and Conference League.

Rangers are seeded and will play either Hammarby (SWE)/Anderlecht (BEL), Hajduk Split (CRO)/Pafos (CYP), Tromso (NOR)/Hradec Kralove (CZE) or Jagellonia Bialystok (POL).

In the Conference League, Motherwell take on Faroese outfit HB, with LNZ Cherkasy (UKR)/Gent (BEL), Besiktas (TUR)/FC Midtjylland (DEN), HJK Helsinki (FIN)/Coleraine (NIR), Twente (NED)/Ferencvaros (HUN) or RFS (Lat)/Vestri (ISL) waiting for the winners.

Meanwhile, Hibs are up against Kosovan side FK Malisheva with their potential next round opponents coming from NK Bravo (SVN)/KF Shkendija (MKD), FC Santa Coloma (AND)/SK Rapid (AUT), Rakow (POL)/Valetta (MLT), NK Rijeka (CRO)/Derry City (IRL) or FC Polissya (UKR)/FC Copenhagen (DEN).

British runner Josh Kerr ran the fastest mile in history Saturday, clocking 3 minutes, 42.66 seconds to shatter the men’s mile world record at the London Diamond League.

Kerr’s historic run broke Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj’s mark of 3:43.13, set in Rome in 1999, ending a record that had stood for 27 years, according to The Associated Press.

The 28-year-old then took a celebratory lap around London Stadium after cementing his place in track and field history.

Video shared by the Diamond League on X captured the historic moment as Kerr threw his arms into the air after crossing the finish line while the packed stadium erupted.

The league’s official account declared, “History made by Josh Kerr!”

The former University of New Mexico standout finished more than three seconds ahead of American Yared Nuguse, who crossed in 3:45.69. Britain’s Jake Heyward finished third in a personal best 3:46.73, according to the official results released by World Athletics.

Reaction poured in across social media shortly after Kerr’s record-breaking run.

Team Scotland wrote on X: “A new world record. Congratulations to Josh Kerr, breaking the long-standing mile world record with an incredible run of 3:42.66. What an achievement.”

The Olympic Games’ official X account also celebrated the feat, posting: “History made. Great Britain’s Josh Kerr roars to a world record in the men’s mile, snapping a 27-year record in 3:42.66 at the London Diamond League.”

Kerr had targeted the London Diamond League mile as one of his primary goals this season, which does not include the Olympics or World Championships, according to the AP.

Speaking with BBC Sport after the race, Kerr said the atmosphere inside London Stadium helped carry him through the final stretch.

“It was just me, my shoes and the track,” he told the outlet. “I was absolutely deaf in that last 110 meters.”

“I didn’t take my foot off the gas,” Kerr continued. “But … I started to glide and I was like, ‘Oh wow, this feels incredible.’ It’s incredible because I’m slowing down. So, I was like, ‘I better get to the line.’ So, crossing the finish line, seeing 42-something, anything, was my goal, so it was great.”

Kerr also reflected on the pressure he put on himself after publicly declaring months ago that he would chase the record.

“It’s very overwhelming with the amount of hype [I created],” he told BBC Sport. “It’s silly to call [the attempt] that early because there’s a lot of things which can go wrong, but I am surrounded by amazing people and was able to stay consistent and put the work in.”

Kerr said he hoped the performance would help define his legacy in British athletics.

“If I am to leave my mark on this sport as a British legend, following in the footsteps of the legends behind me, I have to put in those performances,” he told BBC Sport.

“Those performances take every single part of you, every single part of your team. The amount of work behind the scenes is incredible. Today it was a performance I was able to bring out — I just hoped it would be a little bit faster!”

Before turning professional, Kerr starred at the University of New Mexico, where he won three NCAA titles, captured eight Mountain West championships and set the collegiate record in the 1,500 meters, according to the school’s athletics website.

Saturday’s performance lowered Kerr’s previous personal-best mile time of 3:45.34 by nearly three seconds and erased one of track and field’s longest-standing world records, according to World Athletics.

While he has won gold in the Olympics, Worlds and Europeans since silver in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Daniel Wiffen says that second-place finish in Birmingham still “sits over my head”.

Ultra-competitive by nature, Wiffen acknowledges that the Games four years ago were the springboard to the unprecedented success that has since followed including 800m gold and 1500m bronze at the Paris Games in 2024.

That is why, two years out from the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, he is looking forward to this year’s Games in Glasgow, where he will compete in the 400m, 800m and 1500m and aim to add more gold medals to his burgeoning collection.

“I think after Tokyo [Olympics in 2021] we had a three-year plan and the first was to medal at the Commonwealth Games. You get the first thing ticked off the list and you’re on the way. It was the catalyst which started my swimming career,” he told BBC Sport NI.

“The Commonwealth Games silver sits over my head as I wish I won it but I’ve always said in 2026 I want to win every competition.

“I had a bit of a drought before the Europeans and I wasn’t in my top form for like a year and I think Commonwealth Games, I’m looking forward to getting my redemption and getting a gold medal, at least one and to be honest, I want three but I have to see.”

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are expected to collide before the end of the year in a long-awaited grudge match, and now a British heavyweight who has sparred both men has shared his prediction for the fight.

Speaking with Boxing King Media, Kash Ali, who has sparred both Fury and Joshua, revealed that he is favouring Fury, impressed by his points win over Makhmudov.

“For me, Tyson Fury [is the favourite]. Stylistically, I know Joshua as well, but even when Tyson fought [Wladimir] Klitschko, I was one of the few people, if you go back 15 years, that said Tyson was going to beat Klitschko. 

“They both are still good, they are both former champions, but they are probably coming to the end of their careers now. They have got a couple of years left, then they will be done, but I favour Tyson just from his skill-set – even though he has not been active – his fights have been good. 

“Whereas with Joshua, he lost to [Daniel] Dubois and then he boxed Jake Paul – which is not really a competitive fight for him.”

Fury takes on Mariusz Wach in Thailand on Friday, whilst Joshua faces Kristian Prenga in Jeddah on Saturday.

AJ Styles is considered as one of the greatest in-ring stars of all time. However, even a Wrestling Wizard like the Phenomenal One was part of a major botch that crowned an unplanned Champion in WWE. The incident took place at the 2017 WWE Battleground event where AJ didn’t kick out against Kevin Owens leading to Owens becoming the US Champion. AJ addressed the botch on the latest episode of his podcast.

AJ Styles joined WWE in 2016 after making a name for himself in companies like TNA Wrestling, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. He immediately became a huge star in the company as he defeated John Cena in singles action twice and became the WWE Champion before the end of his debut year in the promotion. After becoming an established main event star in the company, AJ got involved in the United States Championship picture in 2017.

AJ defeated Kevin Owens to win the United States Championship and was set to defend it in a rematch at Battleground 2017. During the match, Owens tried to pin AJ and he was supposed to kickout. However, AJ forgot to break the pin which led to Owens becoming the new Champion in an unplanned spot. On the latest episode of his Phenomenally Retro podcast, AJ Styles addressed the botch and took full responsibility for it.

“This had nothing to do with winning or losing, it had everything to do with someone screwing up, turns out it was me. And I took full responsibility for it. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to being in that ring and when something doesn’t go as planned, I get a lot of shame. So that’s the reason I was pissed, not because I lost the match and it turned out to be awesome anyway because I got to win it back in Madison Square Garden,” he said.

It is great to see AJ take responsibility for the botched spot instead of making any excuses.

AJ Styles retired at the 2026 Royal Rumble event

AJ Styles was offended by the disrespect Gunther showed towards John Cena after retiring him at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Styles challenged the Ring General to a match on RAW and was very close to winning it before Gunther turned the tides with deceit. Styles lost the bout but challenged the former Intercontinental Champion for a rematch.

Gunther said that he’ll only face AJ Styles if he puts his career on the line which happened to be the case at the Royal Rumble PLE in Saudi Arabia. The Phenomenal One passed out to Gunther’s Sleeper Hold marking the end of his in-ring career.
