Rangers place RHP Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) on injured list

The Texas Rangers placed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list on Monday due to right posterior elbow inflammation.
Eovaldi, 36, fared well in his last outing as he allowed four hits and one run over 5 1/3 innings on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. His move to the IL was backdated to Sunday.
Eovaldi has produced a 10-9 record and a 4.21 ERA in 22 starts this season with 137 strikeouts over 132 2/3 innings. He has hit double figures for wins in each of his four seasons with the Rangers.
To fill his spot on the active roster, Texas recalled right-hander Ben Peoples from Triple-A Round Rock. The 25-year-old reliever made his major league debut on July 4. He has appeared in 12 games and posted an 0-1 record and 2.19 ERA. He recorded six strikeouts and three walks in 12 1/3 innings.
The Rangers enter Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels trailing the Houston Astros by half a game in the American League West. They need to find a starter to take Eovaldi’s spot in the rotation on Wednesday night.
